Subject: Latest Victim of October 1, 2012 Traced to Douala Prison
Over two weeks since police raided a catholic church at Great Soppos
Buea and arrested over sixty christains and Southern Cameroons
activists, news reached us at Global Information Network (GLOBINET),
in Bamenda that some of the innocent citizens arrested around that
period were being held in various detention centres in Cameroon.
A particular case of a young motor cycle rider who operates as a bike
taximan was reported to us as having been spotted with policemen being
dragged along to a shop in Tiko, and thereafter, he and the storeman
who sells flags from many countries were dragged into a police van and
taken off.
The Executive Director of GLOBINET thus carried out some findings and
finally traced Ndzi Samuel ( the motor-bike rider) at the Prison
Number 5, New Bell. We succeeded in interviewing him and he narrated
his ordeal, being that he had bought the flags of Cameroon, Nigeria,
United Kingdom, USA etc and decorated his bike with them.
He was thus surprised by policemen on October 1, 2012 as he was
carrying a passenger across the Mungo bridge, close to his residence.
The police had demanded to know where he got all those flags from and
he told them and even led them there. They saw so many variety of
flags there, and went ahead in arresting the store man. They took them
to a police detention in Tiko, and finally took him to the Douala
Prison at New Bell where he is to be found at Prison Number 5.
It should be noted that all those who were arrested on October 1, 2012
and before then have all been released . It is obvious that many
others were also picked up silently and are languishing in various
detention centres around the country. Without the assistance of Human
Rights groups, many will be counted as disappeared and nobody will
ever trace them.
Given that this young man were guilty of being part of the SCNC
program of October 1, 2012, should he be imprisoned in Douala without
trial, while the main actors are out to appear in court on November 8?
Isn't it because the authorities feel that no one will trace his
whereabouts that they are treating him thus?
It should be recalled that the Banjul Verdict prohibits the transfer
of Southern Cameroons activists from Southern Cameroons to La
Republique du cameroun.
We are therefore calling on all Human Rights groups around the world
to put pressure on the Cameroonian authorities to release this
innocent Cameroonian, or charge him to court like the others and let
him prove his innocence. Must the world shout only when many or great
names are arrested? Let us give equal attention tpo this case. The
family reportedly has spent so much monies so far to no avail, to free
their son. Let us save this boy now!!!
