Dear Sir, The culture of greed is universal. In fact, one may say
that it is at the root of capitalism as an economic doctrine. Greed
and acquisition have been a part of human existence since ancient
times. The culture of mediocrity and corruption is because of the
poor social contract between various stakeholders in the Society.
Poor social contract is also because of lax social conventions and
laws and subsequently in their implementation.
In India, our Society suffers from excessive diversity and acceptance
of some social customs and mores that are considered corrupt in
modern democratic societies. India is globalizing rapidly and has no
choice but to accept the Western ways of life. It is not that
everything is well with the western societies but they do have
transparency and implementing their laws without fear or favor as the
outstanding characteristics
Competition and autonomy is essential for unlocking the creative
potential. Consider, that there are a thousand autonomous institutes
delivering management education. It is more likely produce a program
that is a global winner rather than have the Govt decide what is the
best. Now this by itself will not remove the ugly and shameful
practice followed by unscrupulous operators. However, it will make
the process more open and transparent to the due processes of law. It
is very difficult to pin down corruption in the Govt. but it will be
far easier to pin down fraud and crime in the private institution.
Then of course, there is the market to make or break the institution.

Unfortunately every system in India is marred by greediness ,
corruption and mediocrity. Still as Mr. Khanna says, competition at
least forces the stake holders to move towards quality may be it
takes a little time.RegardsVirendra GoelFrom:
