Recently I saw a new pt who had difficulty with the treatment provided by a national dental chain/clinic. Several mini implants were placed to help retain her lower full denture however they're pretty far off parallel and she intends to sue the clinic. The law firm she retained asked for a copy of all of her records. I ALWAYS charge for these. ($400). The firm called me today to 'hardball' me saying they'd pay $37 for the records. She said 'it's illegal to NOT release these records.' (what a bitch she was too!).
Question. Can't we charge a nominal fee for doing this? Is $400 a fair fee? In the past, I've always received this prior to sending out records for litigation purposes. It's not that I want to thwart the patients intentions, but ..
Does this law firm make the $37 charge up for the records, and can I charge my normal fee to do this? ($400).
Thoughts?
and thanks for any input !
Ray
