RE: [ACEsthetics] amalgame fillings

That guy should lose his license.  He would in Georgia.

There is a guy here who is "holistic" and he does amalgam removal in a "safe manner" (I really don't know what he does with that!), and lots of extractions of endo treated teeth and the concomitant bone decayed areas (that name slips my mind). Gets people in from all over the country, too.

I haven't used amalgam since 1980, and take a lot of it out, usually with a rubber dam or isolate and high speed suction. I have a lot of distaste for doctors who take advantage of fearful and gullible people, hoping to find solutions to their cancer, MS or other issues, and I refuse to promise that anyone will throw down their cruches and walk again. And a lot of these guys leave open that inputed promise, I think.

I find plenty of dental reasons to not use amalgam, if you know what I mean!

Everybody has to have their own niche, but that one isn't mine.

We have a dentist client that markets amalgam removal.  He gets people from all over the state via his marketing.  Our visit to his office gave me the idea to write an article about amalgams.

I haven't done one in over 20 years.  I have, on patient request, removed all silver/mercury fillings and replace with composite or all porcelain with some very positive, interesting results.  I don't promote removal in any fashion or form but I don't reject those who seek it out and want it.

Steve Markus, I know this is right up your alley but what do others think?  Guy, I know you think they are safe.  But what about the other issues?  The media (http://usatoday30.usatoday.com/yourlife/health/2011-01-08-fillings-replaced_N.htm)  says amalgams last longer and I say that is totally untrue.  The TV anchor women says, "Its for those with no dental insurance" which confuses the issue completely.

Are any of you marketing to amalgam removal?

Any of you refusing to remove amalgam at the request of the patient?
