RE: [ACEsthetics] Hard to believe

Terry, a story about a friend of mine.  He called me one day and asked if I’d extract a split tooth on him…sure…come on.  God in Heaven, his mouth was a disaster, severe perio everywhere, large carious lesions, and massive tobacco stain so thick that a hoe would barely take the top layer off.  The tooth was easy to remove but there was an even more amazing thing.  This was 30.  There were puncture wounds all in the area of an IAN block area.  I asked him, what the hell.  He’d tried to numb himself up before he came over but being on the right side of a right hander he could not do it.  I asked him why he didn’t get his hygienist to do it.  She had refused.

Even funnier…about six or seven years ago the life time hygienist for my best friend in dentistry came in.  She had broken off a cusp…easy fix.  She had the rep of being the roughest hygienist in the state of Georgia.  She cleaned my teeth while I was home from dental school and I told her I’d teach her how to use those scalers if I had time but just remember there is a blunt side to them.  After fixing her tooth, I told her we needed to make her an appointment with hygiene…nope…no one had ever cleaned her teeth not even Dr. Burch.  Well, you are getting them cleaned here of you are in line for old age perio.  She came back and got her teeth cleaned for the first time in almost 50 years.  She has been attempting to scale them.  So Terry, we never know what other dentists will tolerate in themselves.

Rick and all … I agree with you to an extent; however, have you called him to get his side of the story?   I would find it difficult to believe that I wouldn’t do something for a patient of record, even if it were only temporary.   I wonder, if the dentist thought how he would feel walking around without a front tooth for days if not longer, while trying to get into a prosthodontist.   What did you do for her and do you have a photo?   You and I know that the goodwill is worth a lot more than the fee you may have charged.

This lady called yesterday, turns out she went to her old dentist with this, and he/she told her that she needed to see a prosthodontist and wouldn't do anything with that tooth.

Can you frickin imagine doing that to an attractive middle aged woman, who works in an office job?

How much trouble is it to put a post and build a temp crown?

You think she is a grateful patient right now? Oh, don't answer that, her eyes told me!

Pisses me off that any dentist would pass on that opportunity to help, seriously.

Rick
