UB Strike: 4 Students Arrested This morning Feb 12

i just received unconfirmed information that some 4 students , apparently student leaders of the university of Buea were this morning arrested by gun totting policemen around Amphi 150 at the Molyko Campus.

Their arrest came few minutes to the ongoing press confrerence organised by the university administration. The students arrested have been identified as Tabi Arrey Manyo and Bate Ndip( all from the Faculty of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine and Oben Emmanuel and Njongwe Marcel all form the Faculty of social and Management Sciences.

Reports say those arrested assisted in negotiating for the students to take part in Yesterday's march past by UB students at Bongo square

Other sources are indicating that security forces have been increased on campus and it remains unclear who ordered for the arrest of the students who are reported to have been dumped into the infested cells of the Buea Central police station.

The President of Synes UB Prof Michel Yanou, confirmed the arrest of the students and said he would make the trade Union's position subsequently.

I also gathered that the Committee of Dean and directors of UB held a weekend meeting and banned the University of Buea students Union, a body whose existence is reportedly  backed by the 1993 texts creating the University of Buea.

We  hear from unconfirmed sources that the committee of Deans and Directors also plans to ban Synes UB chapter.

Details about the press conference subsequently.
