Dr Mitra's experiment and findings may leave us with some conclusions, questions, and provocative debates:
a. artificial environments do not always contribute to understanding.
Do 'institutions' like the class room, the syllabus, and the degree offer such an artificial environment?
b. adults are obsessed with education for others, especially for children, without questioning the value.
Why don't adults take their own medicine? Why don't teachers and parents (both adults) study?
c. those between 10 and 20 years may have more contemporary skills than adults of 25 years and older.
They absorb more, think faster, and do more - although we oldies refuse to admit it.
d. In 2020, will the class lecture - as we know them today - be dead? Should its alternative be always based on hi-tech?
Can process-driven options - like team learning, community schools, PBLs, and games - do what even hi-tech cannot do?
e. When will we admit to the inefficiency of the familiar degrees - graduates, post-graduates, and doctorates - and give them a quiet burial?
If so, what next? During the decline in popularity, will the course period collapse on itself so more is covered in less time?
