You see, Mr Tabe... good money will eventually chase away very bad
currency but we should watch it before we cast the first stone. We all
desire to invent a free and unfettered and decent and very
professional press but we should balance that with due process and due
diligence even for the most recalcitrant member. The media is very
funny. When it is good, nobody....not even the authorities
complain;;;but the day we make an error...they throw us out with the
bath water. I do not know some of these indicted programmes neither do
I know those sanctioned. But, can I ask you a question? Do you mean to
tell me that these programmes have not been of service to the public
since they were created? Do you mean some of those asking for this
poor devil's head today have not enjoyed even one edition of his
programme? So you would kill the programmes because of a few editions
that were in bad taste? Why did the NCC, as the authority not strive
to educate the poor chap? By the way, when exactly has the NCC
attempted to educate the media on itself; its activities and the law?
So they only come in to apply the law?

2. Mr. Boh is ,aking a very strong point. About the greatest threat to
the media is SELF CENSORSHIP created by the ear to speak; the fear to
write, the fear to report; etc. This fear is even most insiduous when
it is created inhouse. It is a form of INTELLECTUAL TERRORISM and it
kills art and innovations and creativity especially in the broadcast
media.

3. Look, I am not a member of CAMASEJ or any of these associations but
I do imagine that you folks created these associations to defend
yourselves and your members. When one member fails or is sanctioned we
have all failed.

4. Do you know how many times folks cautioned us on Minute by Minute
and Cameroon Calling...even our colleagues? We kept on IN FAITH...the
Faith that FREEDOM OF SPEECH and EXPRESSION were NON NEGOTIABLES!
