On this issue of ICC there is something I do not understand. Lets take for granted that Africa is targeted. Should we not be celebrating this?. No one seems to be saying there is no impunity in Africa. No one is saying these guys generally are blameless. No one is saying Africa has been good at cleaning its own mess.
If an international body like the ICC decides for neo colonial reasons, decides because the apparent weakness of Africa in dealing with impunity is so clear, decides because of the concentration of dictators in Africa (only few rulers in the over 50 countries are not dictators), or for any reason decides to help us and bring perpetrators to justice should we be complaining?.
If the complaint is that the court process is not fair and fair trial is not given then I might understand. The moot point that people in different continents have committed crimes but those in Africa are more targeted is of no moment with me. I can understand when the Presidents of African countries in their AU conferences complain because they are on the firing line but for the people for whom this cleaning by the ICC is done to complain that their house is being over cleaned is terrible.
I love and would advocate for more targeting of perpetrators in Africa if not for the deterrence, then for revenge by the people. ACHPR is a toothless dog and when the ICC comes to our help we claim that we are being targeted. If so, the question so what?. Let African perpetrators be targeted. The usual racial undertone as a defence will be used to fight the purported targeting like it is being used in many different situations.
I believe Africa is targeted and I think it might be the best thing for Africa until the continent is cleaned up. If there is prima facie evidence that a crime against humanity or other heinous crimes have been committed, let the ICC do its job in Africa without being fettered on academic or moot points. Africa needs the ICC and perhaps the ICC needs Africa to help establish itself. Either way, I do not care. Rwanda, Congo, Sudan, Southern Cameroon etc, all hail ICC targeting of these places.
