Dear All,
Thanks to Professor Ashutosh for unfolding certain
core principles of knowledge earning. The total
evolution of a man is not by virtue of one or two
faculties. Each faculty is equally important as the
other for lack or less of one faculty can create a
mess. We have a pukka mind set that engineering and
medical (and now management)can fetch more money. It
can be so as we have failed to understand that
absence of others can lead to chaos. Those nations
that impart equal weightage to all faculties like
commerce, literature, drawing, dancing and musics,
egg, management, medical, agriculture, etc., are
bound to be developed nations. Our education system
is not based on attitude and aptitude and we know the
results: mismatch.
One more thing we need to keep in mind growth is the
outcome of our abstract thinking. Abstract thinking
is an ever ongoing process, path independent, and can
be strengthened by any means, like, thinking,
contemplating, meditating, experiencing,
observations, peer learning, or any other damn thing
for that matter. Hence being aggressive for any means
serves no purpose.
Prof. Ashutosh has put the thigs in the right
perspective. Unless we do not understand the heart of
the matter, we will be searching a needle in dark.

I remember my School
days that after passing 10th CBSE Board exam my
father who is a
Civil engineer told me to opt science or Maths for
next learning’s, I was more
inclined towards commerce field and I chose it for my
future, I can still

for the matter of fact
during under graduation?

I believe most of us
have build our foundation from those school masters
who have taught us all
the basic fundamentals along with
changing updates and I hope many of the MTCians might
have entered in IIT’S ,
IIM’S & Industry due to these school
masters.Â

So have we failed because we never build
our foundation by gaining knowledge through industry
person?
Now coming to the
Academic field as a Career, It has been always
neglected as a career choice by
most of the young, passionate people and if an
individual tries to enter in the
field then he has to face lots of criticism from lots
of people around.Â

Why the Gap Exist?
Industry experience
can’t be alone treated as the gap filler or a final
solution, of course I
agree that these people have lot to
share in classroom but others without industry
experience are not responsible for
creating such a gap.
The reasons can be as
follow
1.    Â
Lack of interest in Teaching as a
Career( Most of them treat it as a side option)
2.    Â
Lack of interest in research work (
People are interested in gaining free PhD)
3.    Â
Mass admission policy for profit earning
without scanning the candidate profile.
4.    Â
Lack of basic facility for teaching
resource development in most of the institutes.

At last I would like to share an experience
which I had by
working with one of the Esteemed Professor, Dr. JC
Varshney who is having more
than 100 books to his credit in the field of
Commerce, Accounts and Management.
I was overwhelmed, felt proud to work with such a
personality whose book I used
to read during my B.Com days. Such a humble and kind
personality who changed
many lives through his immense knowledge by
dedicating his whole life in
teaching field.
We are not Gap creators
but we are Learners & Educators.

Dear MTCiansI am an Industry Professional turned
academician with 17 years of industry experience and
13 years of academic experience. I have taught at
prestigious Business Schools such as TAPMI, SDM
Institute and Kirloskar Institute. Like mentioned
above, I came to the academics due to the Economic
Slow down but decided to stay back in Academics due
to the rewards it offered me, not
only monetarily but also emotionally and
professionally. I have been a mentor to hundreds of
students who are well placed in reputed companies the
world over. I have been a corporate trainer to
reputed companies such as Infosys, L&T, Siemens,
TExtron, HCL and many others. I feel one of the
saddest part in the present day academics is that the
teachers are the main reason for the gap in
employability and industry connect that exists today.
The so called departments of Management in many of
the Universities and colleges are nothing better than
glorified Arts & Commerce departments. The students I
have had are a testimony to my passion and teaching
skills of a very high standard. I am now heading
Manipal Education in their eLearning initiatives and
designing engaging digital content and learning
Management Systems. We practice a very high level of
Instructional Design and are building great
pedagogical models of world class value to higher
education. The people who are from Industry bring
great value to the teaching profession and are the
main bridges in filling the gaps and to give
substance to the otherwise empty theoretical
rhetorics of pure academically oriented
pedagogues.Let us accept this and bring in more
industry oriented practices into our pedagogies so
that the gap between industry needs and academic
capabilities are filled.

Dear ColleaguesI totally agree with what Mr. Pandey
has said. People with industry experience do not
necessarily make good teachers. The problem we face
today is not that of people who lack industry
experience but people with a lack of passion for
teaching. For many, it's just a stop gap arrangement
or a job switch necessitated by the need for a job
which is 'easy'.
A teaching job, is considered to be a very easy one,
which does not require much effort. Many people
believe that 'Those who can do. Those who can't
teach.' This has resulted in people looking down on
the entire teaching community. We have all heard the
many jokes on Professors and the salaries they earn.
Add to this the insensitive employers who do not
understand what it takes to be a teacher. As stated
by Mr. Pandey, what is needed is a
change in mind set and better pay and perks to
attract the best to the teaching
profession. Thank you.

Dress Code
Industry Experience is not at all a bad idea but it
does not guarantee the improvised version of Faculty.
I have seen many faculties having industry experience
but they lack behind teaching skills..
I believe teaching is an art which is fine tuned with
end no.of case studies and research and its not
restricted only to industry people.
We can find example of many professor who have
dedicated their whole life for this noble cause.
The Gap starts when teaching is taken for granted by
Employer who is just concentrated towards high profit
through mass admission, low recruitment profile by
paying less money to teaching resources.
Its also the mistake of most of the employee who
joins the teaching career for the sake of job and
never do justice with this esteemed career.
I believe its not the industry experience which is
required, its all the right attitude which is
required by all the stakeholders involved in
education process whether its a faculty, employer,
students, parent's or an industry person.

experience, may I ask how many MBA faculty are having
Industry experience. Without the faculty having the
practical experience on
a relevant subject how can a B-School
student get the proper input.

you. With regard to multi tasking I would like
to submit that the concept is not something new to us
, as our mother is a great multitasker.
Moreover elderly/ wise people say one can be creative
by doing one work at  a time. In other words
better to concentrate on one job/ task while
attending to many. If  I am correct even
Prahlad Sir indirectly mentions the same when he
talks about the core competence. If everybody can do
every thing then the very concept of talent becomes
irrelevant.Â

Having operated in Reputed Business Houses like Tata
Mittal etc.for nearly two and half decades in large
setups i have hardly seen less than 1% of the
employees are PhD's. All these industries are
successful and Management Institutes are requesting
them to take their students.
Let us not forget that nearly 90% OF M.B.A. STUDENTS
JOIN industry may be 8% start their own business and
less that 1% or nil take up teaching.
