RE: [ACEsthetics] removing veneers with laser

Zirconia crowns will break in half if you split them and use a crown spreader.  Bonded e.max can be dangerous.

Well, today was the day I removed the 10 units of Zirconia. The laser saved my ass. I have an old waterlase (ErYAG). It does work to remove zirconia. The vereers popped off. The crowns were a little harder. They were vereered porcelain over zirc cores. I had to remove the porcelain, slit the crowns, and use the laser. The halves popped off. Man, am I relieved! If I had to grind them all off, it would take many hours.

This is a good reason to buy an old used waterlase. I have a feeling this situation will be coming up more frequently.

Happy hour starts early today.

Arturo,

That's kind of what I was thinking. They're opaque to x-rays, so the laser will probably bounce off. The guy who placed them says otherwise, but I am doubtful. Damn! I'm not looking forward to prepping them off.

Don't think so since Zirconia is a metal.  Lasers and metal typically do
not get along well.
