I started via cutting a slot across the top, and HERE'S THE KICKER.
Being at the very edge of when I was finishing torqueing, is when this
fractured.
One would think that this screw would be almost impossible to back
out..however as SOON as I hit it with a mosquito diamond bur, it looked as
though it had turned on me, and so I carefully checked it and lo and behold
I COULD back it out after several tries.
The concerning thing is this..If I was to the torque level it was supposed
to be, how in the WORLD would a tiny touch with a mosquito diamond be able
to have dislodged the remaining embedded screw at that amount of torque?!
That REALLY bothers the dickens out of me. It should have been A LOT harder
to back out. I didn't even need a slot cut into it..as SOON as I touched it
with a bur, it was loose.
That tells me that perhaps these amounts of torque aren't quite enough! I'm
VERY skeptical now of screw torque, the 'bending' of the threads inside the
implant body itself, etc.
NO WONDER even with proper torqued screws, these things can back out and get
loose! I've had it happen thrice on my own implants, torqued at
manufacturers amounts.
And yes we have our torque wrenches calibrated professionally once/year.
You'd think that over time, the torque wrenches would come out of adjustment
to the low side, because of fatigue of the metal on the wrench..hence 30 Ncm
would really be less than that in real life.
Ya know?

The crowns and the implant abutment fit beautifully on this case, however
when I went to torque the screw down at 32 NCm, it fractured the screw.
Implant Direct 3.0..Hmm..Not sure I like this company any more!
LUCKILY I retrieved the screw without boogering up the top of the custom
implant, however I'm pretty sure that 32 NCm is NOT too much torque for
this, but correct me if I'm wrong.
I've been in dentistry for 32 years and this is my first screw fracturing.
Thoughts?
