In my very limited experience the metal ones are easier than the plastic because you can grab them.  I usually ultrasonic around them to open a little space and then use the ruddle post removal system to grab them if the ultrasonic has not dislodged them.


I have not done a ton though.  I don't do and never did a lot of retreats.  If it goes beyond that then I usually refer.
