Re: [ACEsthetics] Larry Ellison on NSA and privacy. I totally agree with his angle.

Hi Bruce!

Ignoring the insults and the over-the-top sarcasm,  it IS a good thing for us to be living in the shade of the U.S. military umbrella. It/;s olne of teh advantages of living with the elephant next door that we appreciate, and that  offsets some of the disadvantages.  Altogether, there are more advantages than disadvantages, and we would rather live next to you than most countries, although the babes would be better if it were Sweden.

The argument you are using here, of course, is the "I do some really good things so you must overlook any bad things that In do" argument. It's popular in abusive relationships, too!  A popular variant is the "We saved your assesses in WW2, so you cannot criticize our current foreign policy" argument.

I think it's great that the worst thing that comes to mind to say about us is that our money has funny names!

It's nice living under the American nuclear umbrella while the American armed forces - paid for by the American people - guard the ramparts for most of the western democratic societies and a few of the socialist kind. FWIW, any country that has currency units called "loonies" and "twonies" has no grounds for condescension.
