RE: New Site for Limbe Sea Port Announced

It is strange how feasibility studies on the Victoria/Limbe seaport are always ongoing for more than forty years now whereas those of the Kribi port begun about three decades later have since been completed and work proper about 50% already done. Only fools can be deceived by such blatant indifference and criminal neglect of a people.

New Site for Limbe Sea Port Announced

The announcement is from the Minister for the Economy Planning and Regional Development, during a visit to the construction site recently. Initially earmarked for Ngeme near Fini Hotel in Limbe, the South West Region, the Minister said the sea port would be relocated to Isongo. He attributed the decision to the narrowness of Ngueme area and that it was not deep enough. He also cited the high cost of indemnifying Ngueme residents. To Minister Emmanuel Nganou Njoumessi, there are few homes in Isongo and there is the possibility of extending the seaport, expected to be some 15 to 17 metres deep. It could also host bigger ships and vessels. The Limbe port is expected to be capable of handling some 1.6 million containers by 2050.For some days National Port Authority officials have been taking measures to finalise feasibility studies on the Limbe Port. Government sources said that financial instutions like the World bank and financial partners such as South Korea could disburse funds for the project expected to be completed within two years. The construction of the Limbe deep sea port has been estimated at 282 billion frs CFA.
