RE: Elections spotlight Cameroon's weak democracy

And yes. The notion of electing a head if state is western. Before the Europeans came to Africa African nation-tribes were and still are led by chiefs. These chiefs were and still are unelected.
It's the Europeans who introduced rulership by election.

Before the Europeans came Africa was just a lend filled with tribal nations. The countries as we know them today did not exist. There was nothing like Cameroon or Nigeria or even the name Africa. The name Africa itself is a Europewn invention. We were simply tribal nations each ruled by unelected chiefs. Today, we still have those unelected chiefs and seem to think that all need to do is make that western democracy work at the too and continue to keep out fabric of unelected chiefs going. The unelected leaders is in our DNA. We have been doing this from time immemorial. Only common sense will show you that unless you remove this whole form of unelected leadership from our DNA, we cannot expect out system, even at the topmost level to change. Hasn't happen for most Africans in the past 50+ years and you can add another 1000 , it still won't work for a majority of Africans unless it's removed from out DNA
