Re: [MTC Global] [Weekend Debate] Skill Based Education

I REALLY BEG TO DIFFER WITH THE STATEMENT. I think Prof Dutta what You stated is right from the perspective of a developed nation where uneducated rural youth does the firming well and unemployment is not like India or may be the credit balance deficit is not alike us.

Indian scenario is different and some wise people said something like" you can't really worship in empty stomach just to please the God & other rituals". Most probably the statement is very generic in the favor of educated urban segment which is not a very big percentage wrt to the number of total uneducated job less rural youth.

If we look at Japan, Australia , Canada...they have skill development Universities and they provide skills in different level which even could go to the level of PhD and runs parallel to the formal education level e.g. Bsc, Msc, Ph D even in different skills. I guess you still remember " jato mat, tato path". I mean to say path could be many but goal remains the same. Hence just skill development and vocational education training in India can't be just ignored anymore, because that would also create jobs in sme sectors and would benefit millions of rural uneducated jobless youth in India. If we have to leverage on our demographic dividend this could be one of many other routes.

In skill based education we produce robot-like workers with limited skills and experiences. But I think most people would agree that Individuals have abilities and interests that make them better suited for some jobs over others.

I believe , We need to create a system and culture of education in which such self-discovery doesn't just happen serendipitously but rather is the core focus of education. This can only come from an early exposure to a rich and diverse set of study, including art and music, science, math, design, writing and more.
