Re: [MTC Global] Business is my art

Yes. Business is an art rather a creative art (more you practice more you gain expertise) and the tools of which are capital, people and market etc
Now let's look at the change that took place in the three tools and the business itself:
Once it was said (Peter Drucker) that the purpose of business is to make profits and now people are talking about triple bottom line.
Capital today is concentrated in few hands and inequalities (check latest OECD report) are increasing. As a result you have Occupy Wall Street movements etc
Coming to the market ideas, what we see today is that Upstream activities like sourcing, production and logistics are increasingly being outsourced and the only way of building customer loyalty is through downstream activity of delivering a product. That calls for a strategy rethink.
Today given the accessibility, availability and affordability of all other resources it's the  human resource which provides the required cutting edge. Though we are talking of inclusion what is being done is more of subsidies, , reservations etc rather than going for more enterprises so as to create more jobs for the unemployed youth.
Today business or business organisations occupy an important place, with some of the organisations budget equalling or being more than the GDP of few countries.
Hence, the need of the hour is responsible business and to facilitate that a transparent culture, consistent/investment friendly policy framework,  robust infrastructure with enough safeguards for people's welfare(governance taking precedence over government).
In this regard, I recollect what KMBirla said once:
"A business is not expected to prosper in a society that doesn't".
And as rightly said by  Peter Drucker  in his last days:
The societal interests should become the interest of business. So Let's do,  what ever little we can by guiding/training our youth, to move in this direction.

Subject: [MTC Global] Business is my art

"The highest art form is really business .It is an extremely creative form , and can be more creative than all the things we classically think of as creative . In business , the tools with which you are working are dynamic :capital and people and market ideas .   ( These tools) all have lives of their own.So to take these things and to work with them and recognise them in new and different ways turns out to be a very creative process ."
