Mr Ubong Obot,

I wouldn't like to deflate your expectation about Nigeria reclaiming Bakassi from Cameroon, because I too, would like to see this happen.

However the basis of your hope does not hold water. Bakassi was handed over to Cameroon following the victory of Cameroon over Nigeria at the International Court of Justice. In the case of Russia taking over the Crimea, Ukraine had asserted independence from Russia (the Old Soviet Union) and it is up to her to defend her independence with or without the help of the International Community. Things appear to be bad for Ukraine because of the population of Russians in the Crimea and by some political manipulation or so, the intention of the latter now is to secede from Ukraine.

Nevertheless, let us keep hoping that Nigeria will find some other formula to reclaim Bakassi other than the use of force which will be fatal.

Thank you.

I woke up feeling hopeful; reason being...... if Crimea can go back to Russia then Bakassi can be taken back through referendum. I am not a legal expert but just feeling that both cases look similar.
