Re: [MTC Global] Academicians not working with corporates?

Dear Sir, There is no unique answer. There seem to be many reasons. The first of these lie with the business men. They understand the markets and its complexity better than any other; somewhat like the research worker who becomes the best informed person on his research topic.
Secondly, a prejudice exists that academics are not practical people. While they may be strong on principles these are too general to be of any practical application. This somewhat similar to the plight of a workman trying to master a skill by reading books on them.
Thirdly Companies do not rely on written down documents or manuals to guide the conduct of their business. It is mostly in the head of the CEO on how a company would operate.
Fourthly, there is always the allure to breach any laid down system for short term gain. A lot of business activity cannot be documented in the prevailing environment of corruption and manipulation.
Fifthly, what can an academic do? He would ultimately offer advice. When everything is perceived with a high level of randomness, an astrologer's advice is as good as an academic's advice. There are ideas dime a dozen, and another brilliant idea may also go unnoticed.
Lastly, how many academics themselves opt for advising industry if they were paid less or nothing for their work.

Unlike what is happening in Europe and USA, corporates
are reluctant to take academicians into confidence and involve them in
the research that relates to their business issues ( that  require
research).

What are our academicians and their affiliating institutions short of ? Competence? Skill? Poor reputation?

If
it is so, how can academicians reconcile( bridge) with corporates? If
Indian corporates are not used to ( no culture of accessing academicians'
skills) working with academicians, why not foreign companies that
operate in India work with academicians.

Many corporate honchos that connect with this forum may
deliberate on what academicians lack? Why Indian corporate don't need
academicians' inputs vis-a-vis foreign companies on foreign turf work
closely with academicians?
