  • Lainso Bara And the temperature this morning was 46°C in this classroom. They stood up to welcome us. I wish we could do something in a big way. Interesting, some of the richest people in this country are from this Region. God help us.

BIYA wades in as Mbah Ndam refutes allegations of enormous indemnities for MPs

Joseph Mbah Ndam, SDF Member Of Parliament and Vice Speaker of the National Assembly has said he is not aware of any undue huge sums of money allocated to bureau members of the National Assembly for the purchase of service vehicles and other privileges as we reported last week.

In an intense telephone exchange with this reporter , the Momo MP in a rather abrasive manner claimed that he had no idea about the indemnity money. He refused to comment further and preferred to refer us to those MPs who were said to be angry with the way the indemnities were distributed to give their views.

"Call those who are angry to speak because I don't know of any allocation of funds to anybody," an embittered Ndam retorted. Further attempts to get him to release more clarifications on the subject met with a stonewall as he simply dropped the call, protesting "if you don't mind, I'm at a burial."

According to the draft, the House Speaker would go home with as much as 80 MFCFA, while the Senior Vice Speaker had been allotted 65 MFCFA. The other four vice speakers and the four questors would each cash out 50 MFCFA.

Latest unconfirmed reports, however, say President Biya may have waded in to preempt any future row between the bureau and the rest of the 157 ordinary members of the house.

A local newspaper reported that a member of the ad-hoc committee disclosed that the ordinary members would instead of the initial 10 MFCFA now go home with 30 MFCFA each.

Also earmarked for an increase is the traditional 8 MFCFA that the MPS usually receive as micro project grants. We gathered that the amount may be doubled to 15 MFCFA. All the 180 members of the house are expected to benefit from the amount.

  • Ntemfac Ofege Ask Mbah Ndam and Awudu how many members of their families are recruited in the NA...SDF baboons now replacing the CPDM chimpanzees.
  • Lainso Bara Hahahahahaah, Ntemfac, just let them take their own share.
  • Ntemfac Ofege Mr B. We did not create the SDF for that. The francophones expect us to be different, to show the example. Do you know that Mbah Ndam's companies were on the list of enterprises that stole money from P and T under Mounchipou? Mbah Ndam should have be jailed for aiding and abetting thievery.
  • Lainso Bara But he was in the fore-front of members who asked for the commission to probe Monchipou? Wasn't he?
  • Ntemfac Ofege He had no choice, he was dragged thereto by Akonteh who actually unveiled the file. Moreover the enterprise concerned were under the names of some members of Mbah Ndam's family. There's lots more.
