Re: [MTC Global] [Weekend Big Debate- I] How should we measure student success?

How should we measure student success?

During my 5 years of interactions with students as a Placement Official..... I have come across many incidents where students who were written off by all faculties as dead case were infact able to get good placement even in PSU's ( through contact ofcourse ) and at times were able to crack a process which toppers could not. It often left me thinking that mere bookish knowledge is not what the HR's who come for head-hunting, look for. The confidence to dare, challenge and accomplish a task which an average student displays could be more than the watchful, dreading and hesitant steps of a topper....for whom failure seems to be the worst thing in life whereas the average student who has been through ups and down is not worried of taking up challenges. One of the toppers of a previous Institute I worked for had dual internship....one in Fedders Lloyd and other one was International exposure to internship in a Speed Boat manufacturing firm in Singapore.....however the complacent topper who was assured of placement in Fedders chose to bypass other good opportunities due to Fedders assurance which I always felt uncomfortable and urged him to atleast try in good branded corporate for atleast ascertaining his worth as a competition to Fedders offer. But at the end of the season Fedders suddenly did a U-turn and the guy was left without any good opportunities and ended up taking up a job in a Hotel in their Finance Department. Such turnarounds dent the confidence of a student but then I also fault the student for being complacent despite my warnings as I always share my gut feelings with students to prevent adverse affects which are associated with any process which goes awry.

We always urge students/youngsters to follow their Hearts choice in interests whether it is games or study....but how they manage the time-table is what would decide their success in the field of their interest.
