Re: RE: [MTC Global] [Weekend Big Debate] Sex Education in School

@Ste[hen: I asked the question because  I worked in one and am in one now-full time.
I empathise  with your feelings-I see orphaned children ( in hundreds) but dare not suggest the homes for  them for I know the horror. We will continue to hear the horror stories-because the law is a partner in the crime. My emphasis though was to say sex education heightens your awareness to wrong/bad moves
Teachers and girl students-always dicey.I remember a full front page article in DH about this issue in medical colleges-it corroborated with what my medical college friends said to me and about the obnoxious behaviour of the professors. Well...this too is mera bharat mahaan

@ Ms.Gowri......As I pointed out my experience has been with NGO sector where you rightly put that the children are from vulnerable background but the volunteers/employees are adults and have had prior conditioning in what is expected from them....yet there were a couple of cases which left me with bitterness.
About Schools.... my opinion expressed was based on news reports and some odd cases shown on crime patrol where students underwent ordeal at the hands of teachers ( mostly it has been the male teachers who have been culprits ).

One problem with Sex Education in School is....if the Teacher is
in-house, there would be a little compromise or partiality towards
some students and the close proximity shared by teachers with students
also could result in accusation/finger pointing as I have realized
this during my stint in NGO where people who were supposed to
educate/protect the children were found to be exploiting them. There
was a recent case of such mis-happening in an NGO in Pune & Chennai as
well.
@ Stephen: I would definitely like to see this correlation in some study unless of course it is your personal opinion.  I am trying to see the connect between the sex education and child abuse.A good sex education in fact prepares the child for abuse and how to handle it.
In a "home" like the one you mention children are from the most vulnerable backgrounds and adults make use of it
