Excerpts from a final communiqué of the Bamenda (Catholic) Provincial Episcopal Conference (Bamenda, Buea, Mamfe, Kumbo) 17 - 23 August 2014., to the People of God in the Catholic Ecclesiastical Province of Bamenda:
..." The Congregation for the Evangelisation of the People has approved the opening of the Saint John Paul II Major Seminary, Bachuo Ntai, Diocese of Mamfe, with effect from September 2014. The Congregations recommended that this Seminary be considered and developed as the Campus for the Department of Philosophy or the "Philosophicum" and that Saint Thomas Aquinas' Major Seminary Bambui, which, hitherto has been for both Philosophy and Theology gradually become the Campus for the Department of Theology or the "Theologicum". This recommendation which has been accepted by the Bishops of our Ecclesiastical Province has a number of advantages. It will foster the unity of the clergy of the Ecclesiastical Province of Bamenda since all our future priests will go through both Major Seminaries during their time of formation. It will enhance a better and judicious use of our financial and human resources. That means our Ecclesiastical Province will henceforth have only one Spiritual Formation Centre, one Philosophicum and one Theologicum. We solicit your prayers for the success of this important project and we thank the faithful and all our benefactors for their generous support for the formation of our local clergy.
With the approval of the Congregation for the Evangelisation of the People, the following have been appointed the permanent members of the Formation Team for the Saint John Paul II Major Seminary, Bachuo Ntai:
- Rector: Rev. Fr. Bartholomew Anyanwu, Priest of the Diocese of Buea
- Vice Rector: Rev. Fr. Robert Ntungwe, Priest of Diocese of Mamfe
- Spiritual Director ad Interim: His Lordship Francis Teke Lysinge, Bishop Emeritus of Mamfe
- Bursar: Rev. Fr. Manfred Ejong, Priest of the Diocese of Mamfe
The inauguration of Saint John Paul II Major Seminary, Bachuo Ntai, Mamfe, will take place on Wednesday, the 22 of October 2014, Memorial of Pope St. John Paul II.
The Bishops wish to remind the entire population of our Ecclesiastical Province and all the people of good will that the School of Tropical Agriculture and Natural Resources of the Catholic University of Cameroon (CATUC) will commence in October 2014 as earlier announced in Bachuo Ntai, Mamfe. It will be officially inaugurated on Friday, the 23 of January 2015. Regarding..."
