Role: VMware Engineer 

Location: Jersey City, NJ (07310)

Duration: 12+ months 

• Require advanced level knowledge of the VMware infrastructure product set (ESX & Virtual Centre), Cisco UCS converged technologies and advanced scripting skills (PowerShell, PowerCLI, PowerTool)

Job Description:

• Level 3 support and engineering of the VMware server and application estate (000's); ESX and vSphere versions 3.5,4.1 & 5.1, applications are vCAC and vCO

• Level 3 validation and UAT of new engineering releases e.g. ESX v5.5, vCAC v6.0

As a lead engineer in the IAAS L3 VMware team will be responsible for:

• Being a SME in the core VMware product suite and confident in your knowledge and experience of the surrounding and supporting technologies used within the bank

• Maintaining and improving effective partnerships with the Build, Operations and Engineering teams to drive service improvement

• Identifying and executing on opportunities for automation and efficiencies in operational activity

• Help define, drive and prioritize the hygiene agenda, to ensure the core VMware infrastructure is compliant with our health, risk and security agenda

• Improve the product release process to ensure the smoothest transition from the engineering and architecture phases, through to operational support

• Contribute to incident reduction initiatives to drive operational overhead to a minimum

• Drive to exit our Museum and End of Life infrastructure to help maximize vendor supportability and the stability of the environment

• Provide oversight of problem management in the environment to ensure P1 Incidents are resolved through to root cause

• Provide leadership and direction during P1 incidents to ensure appropriate prioritization, focus and engagement

Desired Experience:

• 7+ years experience in interfacing technologies such as networking, storage, virtualization, applications and data centre technologies5+ years experience of hardware and server operating systems with a focus on ESX

• 3+ years experience supporting the VMware product set e.g. vSphere, vCAC, vCM, vCO and vCOPs, VCP or equivalent industry certifications and/or knowledge

• Scripting skills - PowerShell preferred

• Demonstrable experience of data manipulation tools such as Excel and/or Microsoft Access

• Experience of data analysis and the use of asset inventory management systems across a large and complex server estate ('000's)

• Ability to develop and maintain strong peer/client/customer relationships underpinned by a service oriented approach to work

• Project management (Prince2 foundation knowledge or above)

• An understanding of ITIL concepts (foundation knowledge or above) and the ability to engage with JPMC established incident, problem and change management processes and procedures

• Effective written and verbal communication skills with the ability to articulate technical concepts to a non-technical audience

• A willingness to work to a flexible work schedule with the possibility of international travel

• Ability to perform in a highly pressurized and changing work environment

Technical Experience:
