Re: [MTC Global] Eligibility Confusion--UG College & PG Department

This is very tricky issue. If, different faculties run the programmes of the
same nomenclature, recruitment process may work out to be faulty. Wrong
selection affects the quality of education.

In fact, UG, PG and PhD need to be in line. PhD field is recognized after PG
degree. This is necessary to maintain the insight in the subject. Hence,
AICTE specifies qualification "in the relevant subject", not area including
interdisciplinary. Though, it is expected that candidates working in
interdisciplinary areas need to be expert in the areas concerned, but it so
rarely happens, and a candidate goes through.

MBA and MCA degrees are offered by Science/Management Faculty as well as
Engineering & Technology Faculty. When the Faculties and BOS are different,
it is but natural that the focus and approach towards the subject are
expected to be different. But the syllabus contents appear to be almost the
same and personnel without engineering background are inducted in for MBA
and MCA programmes run by Engineering Colleges. This is one of the main
reasons why the quality of MBA and MCA are not up to the mark in Engineering
Colleges.

I was involved in both MCA and MBA programmes run by Engineering &
Technology Faculty and the actual performance of faculty who completed their
MCA and MBA is not up to the mark meant for MBA/MCA degree run under
Engineering Faculty. This is my personal observation. If we continue the
same thread further, many MCAs (under Science/Management Faculty) have
obtained PhDs in Computer Science who are likely to get selected as Computer
Science Faculty for engineering programmes. Do you realize the adverse
effects of such unsuitable recruitment?

In emerging field like Electronics several degrees are awarded like:
Industrial Electronics, Electronics, Electrical & Electronics Engineering,
Electronics & Communication Engineering, Electronics and Telecommunication
Engineering, etc. Many a times, a guy with electronics qualification except
ECE is get selected as ECE faculty. Do you think is it reasonable? I have
also come across the cases for the appointments of Assistant Professor in
Mechanical Engineering with such qualifications as M E/M Tech in Production
Engineering of Automobile or Mechatronics or Industrial Engineering. Do you
think such type of faculty appointments, though against the directives of
AICTE, will maintain the quality of the course work? PG in Production or
other branches save Mechanical Engg are unable to deal the subjects related
with Power Group or Design Group (Mechanical Engg has three major sub-
groups: Design, Heat Power and Production)!

Thus, we need to cautious to sort out such issues so that students are not
subjected to .....

Let me place before that once a faculty is wrongly selected, Trust has no
alternative but to get dragged with faculty. Some examples are:
1. An Electrical Engineering professor was thrust by University Selection
Committee as Professor of Electronics & Telecoommunication.
2. A PhD in Intrumentation was officiating for a couple of years as Head
Electronics & Communication Egg.
3. A PhD in Electronics was officiating for a couple of years as Head,
Computer Science Department.
4. One AP in ECE was recruited by the University Selection Committee while
(he was in the process of obtaining M Tech) he did not possess M Tech degree
even during Selection Process, was approved by University from July 2011 but
got his degree in August 2011 and there are some worry some facets to his
degree of a prestigious University and Autonomous College.

Will it not be fair to look at such anomalies for imparting quality
education?

Respected Sirs' ....
.....On the one hand, our UGC encourages inter-disciplinary research.... on
the other hand, people with inter-disciplinary research background are being
called jack of all but master of none.....In fact, doing inter-disciplinary
research is a very tough task....
.... it will be like this.... one may have mastery over Telugu....
similarly, another person may have mastery over English.... but to become a
good translator from Telugu to English and viz-a-viz; one shall have mastery
over both ....so is the case with any kind of inter-disciplinary
research.....
.....These people are GENERALISTS ....A GENERALIST will study a particular
thing in relation to the whole or Universe....whereas a specialist will
concentrate upon one single domain.....often, specialists' study,
particularly in Medicine and Management turned out to be abstract
studies....for, these two subjects, like, space research are very
complicated complex kind of subjects.....

..... coming to my case, I did Ph.D. in Psychology.....due to lack of MBA, I
was not called for interview from any University.....Now, after completion
of Ph.D. in Management, I did MBA to become eligible to enter into teaching
profession.....

....regards.... dr vishnumurty narra, hyderabad, india....

In the re-affiliation and fresh affiliation inspection, LIC, of one of the
Universities in South India put two observations respectively...
1. PG: To become a director of MBA Department one must have MBA and Ph.D.
and not M.Com and Ph.D.
2. UG College: Starting two programs B.Com and BCA-- Person must have either
B.Com /BCA/B.Sc in UG and then may have MBA or Ph.D. to become eligible.
Person having BA, MBA, Ph.D. not eligible. But if the UG College starts with
B.Com, BA, BCA and MBA then the same person can become eligible.
