Job Summary
Under the supervision of a Technical Team Lead and/or the Manager, Quality Assurance, the Senior Developer will work closely with team lead, quality analysts, and business analysts for supported, new, and in-development products to understand and troubleshoot issues with those products. Senior Developer will participate in architectural discussions with the Technical Team Leads to develop a broad knowledge and understanding of all supported product systems. The Senior Developer will be responsible for developing long term automated solutions.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field and/or equivalent experience.
- 5-8 years' development experience with Microsoft web-based application development leveraging Visual Studio 2008/2010.
- Experience with Agile/Scrum software development methodologies.
- Experience with Selenium software testing framework.
- Experience with programming in Microsoft C# and using Microsoft Visual Studio IDE.
- Experience with RDBMS with capability to perform simple to complex queries using SQL.
- Aptitude for troubleshooting and researching root cause system issues.
- Understands basic Internet and client/server architectures.
- Understands how various issues affect each other as well as the outcome of projects.
- Fluent with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook with exposure to MS Project.
- Development skills, including experience with at least one .NET unit testing tool and one refactoring tool.
- Experience with object-oriented development principles/patterns.
- Productive accuracy and thoroughness in the implementation of project specifications and design requirements.
- Experience with .NET 3.5/4.0, LINQ, WCF, Team Foundation Server (TFS), and familiarity with Agile development processes.
Responsibilities
- Candidate will provide software system testing support, verification of code and certification that all deliverables meet customer requirements and are free of software defects and/or bugs across the systems development life cycle (SDLC).
- As a member of a distributed Automation Team, the candidate will participate in defining and applying the automation strategy in the development and maintenance of test automation frameworks, solutions and automated test scripts.
- Candidate will be responsible for developing advanced, complex, and comprehensive automated test scripts both from scratch as well as utilizing existing frameworks.
- Candidate will be responsible for developing and modifying automated test scripts to conditionally run in multiple test, development, and production environments.
- Candidate will partake in software deployment testing, regression testing, script development, etc., which may occur outside of normal working hours both on weekdays and weekends and/or involve overtime.
- Candidate will participate in agile team activities such as daily scrums, creating tasks, working on user stories, etc.
- Candidate will work closely with software engineers and other project team members to successfully test and assess ongoing development within demanding schedules, as well as, produce test cases and other Postal project documentation.
- Candidate will design and prepare test plans and related test case scenarios based on documented, and sometimes undocumented, system requirements and/or business rules. This may include positive and negative test cases, regression test case procedures and documentation for simple to complex business functionality.
- Candidate will create and maintain the documentation of test cases and test results and participate in defect reviews to see that quality criteria are upheld.
- Candidate will enter and manage defects in an automated defect tracking system ensuring that all defects are entered with adequate information to assist developers in reproducing the problem, as well as, working with the development teams to identify the root cause of the problem.
- Candidate will provide technical development support to the production support team in order to facilitate ongoing maintenance of key production systems.
- Candidate will leverage appropriate technologies (code development, product features, production support DB scripts, etc.) to develop programmatic solutions to recurring system issues.
- Candidate will use sound test-driven development practices (red/green/refactor).
- Candidate will employ appropriate testing approaches when dealing with legacy code.
- Candidate will remain informed of supported product team features and functionality (this includes attending product team meetings as appropriate).
- Candidate will refactor code whenever possible to improve its readability, testability, maintainability, and performance.
- Candidate will follow and help refine programming standards, best practices, coding styles, and other development guidelines.
- Candidate will participate in design/code reviews.
- Candidate will participate actively in daily team meetings.
- Candidate will contribute substantially to the team goals as set by the Manager/Director.
- Candidate will be available for rotational after hours "on-call" duties as required ensuring critical financial systems/functions are operational.
- Candidate will perform other duties as needed or assigned by a manager.
