RE: [MTC Global] AU issues show-cause notices to 19 teachers for bunking invigilation duty

Best solution to the problem is that students should be allowed to refer to the books to answer the question paper. However, question paper should be so framed that it will test fundamental understanding of the subject and different skills of the student rather than rote learning or copying skills.

Let me present three short stories:

1. In UK, a practice found long ago, a pile of news papers is placed at some places in a square with no salesmen. The citizens used to approach a certain place, picked a copy of the newspaper, put the sales price in a box placed nearby. Sometimes late AN, the salesmen used to go and collect the amount in the box that is found to be exactly the total price of newspapers sold out.

2. Vinobaji Bhave was in Varanasi for his education for about two years. Once he purchased a lock on payment of Rs 6. After sometimes he purchased the same type of lock that he had earlier, but this time the shopkeeper charged him Rs 4. While returning, he thought the owner has charged Rs 2 less by mistake. He went back to shop owner and insisted him to take Rs 2 charged less.

3. Once upon a time, a king ordered his Praja to pour a small bucketful of milk in a tank built at the centre of the city. Next day the tank was full of water for individually every one thought, if I put one bucketful of water, the king could not suspect.

The suggestion "This invigilation thing should go" is a wonderful solution to eliminate/curb out/ease out the present state of affairs found in the exams. conducted. But then what is the alternative mechanism? A few questions that popped out:

Whether invigilation is a part of duties of a teacher?
Whether teacher is the only assessor of his/her students?
Should we stop taking exams?
If exams are cancelled, what is the alternative means for assessing students' worth?
Shall we go for open book exams.?
Shall we once again institute the earlier practice of "your answer-books (paper) will be valued as a whole"?
