Re: [cameroon_politics] RE: Arrest of Nfor Ngala Nfor and Others

Please (Maitres) Barrister Taku and Tumasang
You both are the only Lawyers on planet earth one can talk to without "putting hand 4 kwa asking last price for this consultation". Kudos to you for giving this probono advice to your "constituents". When ever you are discussing with a "pawafull" Lawyer (even on a friendly basis), your heart dey CUT bicos if clock knack One Hour, na $250.00 you don loss so. Sometimes Lawyers have this Professional deformity of always considering anyone in front of them as "CLIENTS". How many other Maitres do you see write their "Expert Opinions" here? You know why? Bicos Internet na Njoh.. I know for a fact that the popular maxim with majority of "Maitres" is "Money 4 Hand, Back Touch down. My late mum used to tell me to avoid Lawyers because according to her...LOYA NO BE YA FRIEND. LOYA YI BEST FRIEND NA MONEY". Thank you for making your profession proud with all the NJOH information sometimes in Legalese not familiar to the average Mishe in town. Now that we've gotten that part out of the way; please kindly explain this to us:
If my recollections are correct, Mr. Oben Maxwell was picked up during the Buea University "Strike" and has been languishing in the dungeons of Buea "Production Prison...what do they "produce sef??...for more than a year now. My question to you both is: Why was the case transferred to a Military Tribunal? Were Arms Sales or trafficking involved? Does a University unrest (that may result in property damage and other acts of vandalism) rise to the threshold of Military sentencing? I thought this was a purely civil matter that could have been handled by the Lower Courts in Buea. Did Oben Maxwell get involved in any other "Crimes against the State" that we are not aware of? Do the SW Legal authorities abide by Common Law practices or they are purely "Fonctionnaires" of the Francophone Yaoundé Administration? How does the Military Tribunal interact (if at all) with the Common Law practices of Anglophone Cameroon?
Thanks for always being there to enlighten us.
Ta Mfar Mishe Fon

Dr Tumasang,
You are right. Holding Marwell Oben and now Chairman Nfor Nfor and others shows how desperate and itchy  the regime and its agents have become. Maxwell Oben has been held in illegal detention for over a one year. I visited him in detention. He was held  after the legal department declined jurisdiction in favour of the Military Tribunal urging the Military court to charge him for formenting a civil war and seccession. The corpus delicti for these crimes was a book about Che Guevera which he pulled from the internet and which is available in book shops in Cameroon. When his lawyers raised legal arguments which the Military examining magistrate could not surmount, he  too declined  jurisdiction. Rather than release him, he left at the pleasure of the legal department, the same legal department that had declined jurisdiction over the case. To underscore the use of the legal system for political purposes, the legal department now filed charges which it had determined was not within its jurisdiction and competence and used those charges to maintain him in remand custody.
The legal department has been challenged to bring Maxwell Oben as well as Nfor Nfor and other SCNC detainees to court but they are surely delaying the cases to await instructions from Yaounde as usual.
We should make our voices heard and urge and international investigation of these acts of lawlessness which are on the rise.
 Chief Charles A. Taku

Chief,
In addition to the list you mentioned, I think local private newspapers and private television stations should be contacted to publish and discuss the issue so that it stays alive. A great guy called Oben Maxwell was arrested and detained and people did not cry loud enough and he has been forgotten by the system for over a year without a proper trial. He is extradited to Military Tribunals in La Republique du Cameroun and brought back to Buea but still not released.

They are testing the waters to see if they can lock up Nfor and Co. and nothing will happen. If we shout loud enough, they will release them to be re-arrested another time as is their stock in trade.

Regards

Tumasang

Greg,
Google UNPO, and you will find past petitions with all the addresses.
I spoke with the Chairman of SCNC N/A  who is doing a great job on this matter.
The regime is becoming very restive and potentially more violent.
Egregious violations and arrests of people even in their sleep is intensifying.
 An unprecedented escalation is ongoing.
It will take the collective resolve of all to roll back these acts of wanton brutality against armless people.
 Sincerely,
 Chief Charles Taku

Dear All,
I think greater
noise should be made about these arbitrary arrests and
detentions without charge perpetuated by La Republique du
Cameroun.

Nfor had a list
of various entities, international bodies, eminent
personalities etc. that he use to copy mails to. Can the
Secretary General of SCNC not make a strong appeal for their
release and copy all these bodies, including the UNPO?.

It seems Southern
Cameroonians have come to accept arrest and detention
without charge as the norm in the society.

Easter is time for family
but Nfor and Co. are in jail without crime. He should be
released immediately to be with his family

Regards

Tumasang
