Deshmukh wanted to make it clear that he would reach out to the public, teachers, students and other stakeholders via social media like Facebook, Twitter — an aspect seen as an integral part of the Modi government.
His briefing with the media began with a pre-recorded video message, in English and Marathi, which spoke of his vision and his plans for the university. "I will interact with various stakeholders of the university on a regular basis through various social media platforms. In the near future, the university will have a strong presence on social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter and YouTube. The university's YouTube channel will have informative and good quality videos on the history of the university, various departments and colleges affiliated to the university, and senior faculties and past students of the university who have made their mark in various walks of life," he said in the video address, which is being released to all departments and affiliated colleges. In another deviation, the family of the V-C sat throughout his nearly two-hour briefing with the media.
Speaking of Modi's Digital India project, which was launched on July 1, Deshmukh said it emphasised effective use of the internet and information technology in various walks of life and if this happened, one would be able to create a "digitally empowered society" and a knowledge-driven economy, reported Indian Express.
