It is sad that IIPM is closing its campuses. IIPM has been into education sector from the period when the government aided universities did not have enough seats to meet the demand. They have carved a niche for themselves in the education market with quality education, training, counselling and placements. They wanted to operate, compete and thrive in the open market economy and never sought any recognition from the UGC or AICTE. This is where it pinched the so called guardians of education in India - AICTE, UGC, DTEs, NBA, NAAC, etc.
More than 90% of the government recognized and AICTE_UGC approved Institutions are owned and operated by the politicians who siphoned off the public money and got huge land allocated from the government for peanuts, to build their Institutions. The institutes like IIPM, ICFAI, etc. pose a great threat to their business and hence using their influence and pressure, they destroyed Institutions like ICFAI, IIPM, etc. This is a great loss of students in the country.
A visit to the otherwise UGC-AICTE recognized and NAAC-NBA certified Institutions show a grim picture. Attendance is as low as 10-20%. More than half of the FMs are not seen around. The quality of teaching is abysmal. Career Management Services are only in the prospectus and advertisements. Still such Institutions operate freely under the guise of being 'recognized' by the statutory bodies. A visit to the state run universities' departments show another grim picture, being understaffed and with poor infrastructure.
I guess, the Government should scrap UGC and AICTE and come up with a new body who will only do audit of such institutions. Such auditing body should not have any member from the academia. Otherwise... in hindi, there is a proverb - "Chor Chor Mausere Bhai".
