Re: [MTC Global] [Weekend Big Debate-II] Why Indian Corporate Czars are averse to charity ?

Whether the concept of  (charity) donation is the same as that of "Daan"?  Daan as I understand is meant personal sacrifice for the goods of needy like "Anna (food), Vidya,  wealth, clothes"  Daan. In Mahnubhao, food-Daan is the best Daan. And it has one to one correspondence, keeping utter secrecy. It is taken as a social responsibility strong supporting the weak, Daan was then the  in-built social fabric in ancient Indian culture. The concept of Daan also goes  with another practice: do not give Daan to non-eligible (Apaatra) person/organization.

Donation is the concept of west, donating something mainly money/wealth to an organization as charity. In western countries like USA even the churches do donate for research work to institutes or to nation.  We have got certain funds maintained at the State/Central level like Relief funds CM Funds, PM Funds, etc., and public can donate to these funds. Donations are normally IT exempted.

The one who donates and the one who receives donation need to be honest in their purpose and trustworthy. Such a faith causes a smooth flow of donations  Perhaps in Indian scenario either such faith is lacking or most of the industries do not believe in donation or they are misers or short-sighted.

Foreign organizations, however, pour money like anything for Indian NGOs in the form of donations of course for their ulterior motives. Donation, thus,  is a two edged sword in today's modern world.

Subject: [MTC Global] [Weekend Big Debate-II] Why Indian Corporate Czars are averse to charity ?

Recently Mr.Azim Premzi has donated 50% of his wealth for charity and TATA is  already doing great charity work since many years but we do not see others are coming forward...............What could be reasons? Whereas, in USA it is very common.
