Re: [MTC Global] Re : Vast Number of MBA seats are vacant

This is not the case of only MBA, but the number of vacancies in engineering diplomas and degrees and MCA are progressively increasing year by year. Demand for the programmes like IT, Electronics and its related prorammes, Architecture, Plastic and Polymer, Electrical Engineering and Civil Engineering, etc., is declining. There are several reasons for such a  state. And we need to go to the root causes and not after symptoms. Consider the following factors, not exhaustive list but a few representatives:

  1. No scientific study of manpower requirements, no robust national education policy for professional programmes in Engineering and Management.
  2. A large number of institutes are approved every year turning professional education into massive admissions.
  3. In spite of the presence of shikasha Shulka Samiti, tuition fees is rising by leaps and bound, unaffordable to many, though about 60% fees is reimbursed by State (public funding)charitable  for SC/ST/OBC/EBC, etc.
  4. Private institutes are the major partners, institutes mainly run by political satraps or businessman or family trusts, and a very few by other charitable trusts. Though admissions are regulated by State, 25% quota goes to management.
  5. Like UG colleges one now finds almost similar number of PG programmes including research centres in engineering run by UG colleges.
  6. Hardly 10% institutes are NBA accredited.
  7. Payment to staff as per the 6th Pay Commission is the major cause of  financial deficit. The private institutes, in many cases, have created glorious infrastructure, national assets and also generated sizeable employment. Under the 6th Pay Scales Assistant  Professor draws minimum Rs 42000 pm, whereas Associate Professor/Professor/Principla draw salary in the range Rs 1 lack to 2 lakhs pm . And pay is not linked with performance. On one hand we see that certain faculties negotiate very high salary because of PhD shortage and on the other we exploit the juniors paying them as low as Rs 12000 pm. Moreover, in many places the recruitment norms are not followed for one or the other reason and also teaching loads norms are hardly followed, this is evident if one referes to Uiversity Acts and Notificatons published  by AICTE from time to time. Non-engagement of theory and practicals is on icrease and use of mobiles, whatapps, network, cut-and-paste or plagiarism are extensively used both by staff and students. And the borrowed concepts like programme education outcomes (PEO), programme outcomes (PO), course outcomes, credit system,  Internal Quality Assurance Cell, TQM, students feedback, etc. rest on papers only, The overall effect is education quality victimization.
  8. The quality of faculties is deteriorating day by day because of low quality yield from university exam. systems resulting into poor quality graduates. This is the cause of low placement and other cause is where are the jobs?  For some jobs we do not get quality takers. The public has realized over a period of time that investment for a four years UG prgoramme to the tune of Rs. 10 lakhs excluding the coaching and other expenses does not fetch either an employment or a job with good pay package, students are not turning to professional institutes.
  9. For obvious reasons the regulatory bodies too are helpless.
  10. The scenario is not found in medical sciences where the number of institute and admissions are limited causing exhorbintanly high cost of education and other payments.
  11. In case of MBA, the entry qualification is any degree with a high tuition fees. These graduates earlier were happy with even any job that fetches them Rs 12000 to Rs 14000 pm, otherwise with the first degree they could not aspire for Rs 6000 to Rs 8000 pm. But later market for MBA got saturated, stakeholders realize the  worth of MBAs and they turn to other grdauates doing the same job at cheaper rates. The quality of Managment fcaulty is questioable. The net result is decrease in admissios and closig down many institutes.
One can add many more  factors, no doubt. The scenario can be changed if we follow/practice some desirable working norms/academic culture with determination and honesty in the national interests.

The present ongoing scenario is not good for MBA. It happens because of lack of good faculty across MBA colleges. In most of the scenarios, MBA is not doing for getting job but just to upgrade the status in society. In present scenario, MBA is not Master of Business Administration , now it has become Mehangi BA (Costly BA).
Private colleges don't want to maintain well qualified faculty. During interview, they try to negotiate which candidate is ready to come at minimum salary. Qualification, Research work does not remain a selection criteria. It has become only a advertisement stunt. Many colleges recruit their own passout students as faculty who are just freshers. Lack of good faculty, lack of good inputs make them unemployable.

Dear all ,

I am In Gujarat for past few days . Today I read in News paper
In Gujarat [which is one of the Leading States In Country as far
as industrial development and Employment opportunities are concerned],
More than 70% of MBA seats are vacant .

No need to mention about vacant seats in engineering colleges.

Do you think we all have to think and need to reinvent the course design and
intentions?
