There are some unwritten conventions regarding consideration of authorship and its credit:
- In case of a single authorship the credit goes to the author.
- If there are more than one author, the credit goes to the first one,
- Normally, the number of authors for an article should not be more than three.
- Publications during the period of PhD work or any paper later turned out on the basis of PhD work should not be considered for additional benefits because PhD is earned (benefit) on the basis of these publications.
- For higher posts experience like 10/15 years is required with certain qualification like PhD. This experience must be counted after attaining the minimum academic qualifications. This is normally violated and experience after graduation is counted which is illogical.
- The publications should have the ranking as: peered reviewed non paid international journals, national journals, International conferences, national conferences. Paid publication should not be considered.
- Only consider those publications related with a post. I have seen that the candidates having PG in engineering and PhD in Humanities/Quality Education are appointed as Principals of engineering colleges by university selection committees.
- Is it write to appoint somebody with BE, DBM and FPM (NITIE) as the Principal of an engineering college?
- Is it write that only BE qualified teacher of 40-45 years old with 10-12 years teaching experience work as PhD supervisor and turned 3-4 PhDs from a university?
- How do we assess eminent professor? etc.

Subject: [MTC Global] [Weekend Discussion] Co-authorship
If I write it, it is mine. If you write it, it is yours. If we write it together, we share the authorship. But , in many cases, it is not true. [ Example: Ph.D. Supervision] . Number of paper increases to the credit of a supervisor , once s/he guides more candidates .
Some supervisors claim co-authorship of every publication written during the candidature. Do not think that this is right, assumed, proper or the default setting. The authorship of papers need to be discussed
