Dear all,
In order to improve the quality of Ph.D work in leading universities in
India, the following process may be considered one of the best
procedures:
1. There should be a proposal defense before the candidate is formally
registered for Ph.D topic. This defense should include Tentative topic,
research problem and questions, objectives, hypotheses and literature
review, in addition to methodology and bibliography. Two internal
examiners and chairperson should be in the committee. The defense
presentation is open, mostly faculty and research scholars. Once the
committee is satisfied with the defense by giving suitable comments and
suggestions, the candidate should be formally registered. Before that the
registration is provisional.
2. There should be Work completion defense following the same above
procedure. The committee gives the Ph.D student time period in which
he/she can submit the thesis after incorporating the necessary suggestions
and comments.
This is all clear signal for formal submission of the thesis.
3. Two examiners should be appointed to adjudicate the thesis, one
national and another from foreign countries i.e. developed or developing
countries, not from Nepal or Bangladesh or Sri Lanka because in India,
many examiners are appointed from these countries termed as foreign
examiners.
4. The committee should review the comments and reports of both the
examiners. If necessary, then national examiner should be called for the
Viva voce and the Ph.D student should address all the
issues/comments.
Thanks
