[MTC Global] Multi-crore state education system scam: Genuine candidates deprived

Representatives from Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), the all-India student organisation, assembled at Charan Singh Park in Meerut, on January 6, to protest against an alleged state education system scam. Over 100 students supported the ABVP representatives in their protest against the multi-crore scam involving scholarships and fee-reimbursements, and a memorandum of 32 points was handed over to the commissioner.

The memorandum submitted by ABVP showed the involvement of several institutions in the scam as they had showed a number of false admissions.

The general secretary of Mahanagar, Chirag Gupta, in a TOI report, stated that there was huge gap in the number of seats available in private institutions and government-aided ones. When private colleges start to deal with false scholarships and fee reimbursements, it deprives the genuine candidates.

He also cited the fee extracted at every level when a student wants to get his degree, mark-sheet, migration certificate or character certificate, and said that the "absolutely unjustified" practice needs to stop.

The setting up of an education tribunal has been demanded by the students' organisation, which would deal with grievances regarding matters of education. The ABVP also asked that the financial transactions involved in the working of the institutions be made available on the institution websites, and be a public domain information.
