[MTC Global] Conversational Competence; Most Important 21st-century Skill

Dear All,
Are we designing technologies that will give us the illusion of companionship without the demands of friendship? As we expect more from technology, do we expect less from each other? The face to face communication and conversation, however, takes place in real time and we need to control what we are going to say.

Here are some tips for having conversation without wasting your time and without offending anybody:
  • Enter every conversation assuming you have something to learn.
  • Be interested in other people.
  • Listen with the intent to understand.
  • Don't multitask.
  • Use open-ended questions.
A good conversation is like a miniskirt; short enough to retain interest, but long enough to cover the subject; most importantly be prepared to be amazed. .......Celeste Headlee.

Warm regards,
G.S.Autee
