Re: [MTC Global] [Weekend Discussion-III] Education sector is crying out for disruption

The 6 factors listed are concerned with the academic culture that is unfortunately is miserably missing in the Indian HE Education system. This is the foundation for any education system. e_Learning was introduced about 4-5 decades ago and MOOC is its latest tool. Germany long back adopted a blending approach. On-line exam and MOOC have limited success in advanced countries though they possess the due academic environment. MOOC adaption needs to be done with full awareness. Let us find out the reasons for:

  1. Why PhD quality is deteriorating day by day in-spite of UGC rigorous guidelines?
  2. Why is AICTE not for award of technical degrees like B Tech?
  3. Why overall quality of education in India churned out low?
  4. Why R & D poor in India?
  5. How about International Patenting?
  6. What is the average research publication of PhD in India? Is it not true that it is not even one article/faculty/year?
  7. We adopted Choice Based Grading system and OBE. Have we done the ground work in a real sense before adopting them? A large chunk of students are awarded grades in the range 7-10.

Everyone seems to be talking about disruption. Like "startup" and "funding", "disruption" has become a part of our daily parlance and evinces a strong sentiment among the entrepreneurial enthusiasts.

We are seeing disruption across sectors and levels, all of which is helping us in reimagining the world around us. Education, meanwhile, is crying out for disruption, but is going unheard. It is a sector that is brimming with opportunities and waiting to be tapped with an innovative approach. We see some activities on MOOC but UGC does not approve any online degree in India so far.

It would be really interesting to have a discussion on 'Disruption in Education'.
