How many people from IITs are in the Indian Armed Forces? Who are they?
They are 1 in a 1000 if you actually count out the ratio of IIT'ians in Armed Forces.I don't know the exact number of them but I can tell you a story that can help you understand about this. 
This was told to us by my Dearest teacher ever Group Captain LK Pandey.He was the Deputy president of Varanasi Board and a GTO for 12 years.

So once during a meeting An Air Vice Marshal pointed out that we are in an Advanced Aviation World and latest technologies, so we should have brilliant people to handle those technologies, therefore why not have IIT'ians in our technical branch who are technically very much sound than others as their number is very less in Air Force.His proposal was accepted and 4 of the senior IAF Officials were given the responsibility to do this task.They decided to visit IIT's personally and held a meeting for all the Deans from all the IIT's.

Officer-Good morning Deans. As you know we all are here to talk about the lesser number of IIT'ians in our country's armed forces. So we want to provide an opportunity to them for being a part of world's most modern and advanced Force.

Dean-What is the procedure?

Officer-Nothing Much.Just a written.Then A 5 Day SSB.Thats it !!.

Dean-Oh My God.5 Days..No No Not at all. An IIT'ian don't have 5 days to go somewhere and spend..

Officer-OK. No worries. For you we will conduct it in 4 Days.

Dean-No No 4 Days are too much.He will miss lots of Syllabus.We cant allow him.!!

Officer-(After discussing with his mates)..OK for you we will make it in 3 days..(See the advantage given to IIT'ians.A 3 day SSB..Cool..hah..)

Deans-Ok.We agree to it.We will inform our students about this and send you the entries of intersted candidates.

After about 1 month,a special 3 day SSB was conducted and very amazingly only 78 candidates reported from all the IIT's across India.

Anyways,the SSB was conducted and there was no screening for them,direct psychology tests.And at day 3 only 2 of them were recommended and rest were routed back.Out of those 2, 1 was declared medically unfit and so 1 was finally selected.We all were shocked at hearing all this but this is true.

So this shows the unbiasedness in our selection system.However intelligent you may be,but if you don't possess the required OLQ's you will not be selected at any cost,be you an IIT'ian or M
