It is found that normally 60-70% students are covered under the above Scheme. Many Institutes have instituted schemes like earn and learn, teaching assistantship, etc
- SC and ST students get free education including other sundry expenses.
- OBC students non-creamy layers (creamy layer: Annual income 6 Lakhs or more) get half concession in fees.
- VJNT non creamy layer students get full concession.
- Economically backward candidate (EBC), Income less than 50,000 or Rs 1 Lakh per annum get full freeship.
- There are several others scholarship available through minority , state/central government, NGOs etc.
- Banks offer soft education loan.
IT is worthwhile to note under Gurukul system the following:
- Living and tuition free to all students.
- The strategy was one according to once potential.

Indeed it is a good decision fit to be emulated by other states. Poor but meritorious students are required to be supported irrespective of any caste or creed. However, income proof continues to be a contentious issue in India as Agriculture and most of the self-employed sectors are out of Tax ambit and income declaration.Sent from my Samsung device

Lal Bahadur Shastri Institute of Management, New DelhiAssociate Professor, MarketingJoyeeta ChatterjeeRegards,Yes it is indeed a very good decision. Thanks for sharing. I have also shared the same on SNS. It is indeed a great feeling of pride as my hometown is Guwahati. Also I would like to share, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sharma happens to be a Cottonian, an alumni of Cotton College which happens to be one of the premium college in the entire North East or even in Eastern India. He was the General Secretary of the students' body of the college and since then he exhibited very good leadership qualities.Indeed proud to be from Assam, from Guwahati and a Cottonian.

"As far as my knowledge goes, Assam is the first state in India to make higher education free for poor students. There will be absolutely no fee for those students whose parents income is less than Rs 1 lakh a year," Assam Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said in a press conference here.
He said this will cover 310 government and provincialised colleges across the state benefitting 50,000-60,000 students. Private institutions are outside the purview of this decision.--[Source: India Today News]EDUCATE, EMPOWER, ELEVATEProf. Bholanath DuttaFounder & PresidentMTC Global: An Apex Global Advisory Bodyin Management Education, ISO 9001: 2008Partner: UN Global Compact I UN Academic ImpactCell: +91 96323 18178 / +91 9964660759
