Re: Professional Complaint

Thanks a million for this remark. Most of our health professionals believe that it is part of their style to write poorly and illegibly.
After examining the patient they will say nothing and just write out the prescription. If the patient dares to ask any questions , they get mad.

THIS IS CONTRARY TO EVERYTHING THEY LEARNT IN MED SCHOOL.

Please brothers and sisters write out the prescriptions CLEARLY and tell  the patient what they are sick of.
Answer their questions even if it means telling them it's cancer or death is imminent.

Thanks

Ladies & Gentlemen,

Fako Heart is writing with a view to guiding members of the medical category as well as protecting patients and the wider public. The Consultant Cardiologist of Fako Heart receives numerous consultations,  referrals and medical records from patients in  many African countries , including Cameroon.

Record keeping is a vital element of good medical practice. I recognise that we are busy with loads of work . However, I recommend you write clearly and in a legible manner,  avoid cancellations, and make appropriate prescriptions.

It is very frustrating to read from colleagues whose notes are significantly below the standards of a medical practitioner not to talk about a  specialist.

Please be reminded that, the vast majority of your patients back at home have relatives and siblings  resident in Western societies. In addition, some pharmacies have no problem accepting international prescriptions. Therefore, you MUST write clearly and in a legible manner.

Poor hand writing and record keeping damages the image of the  entire system.

Fako Heart will introduce an electronic system of record keeping with all prescriptions and medical notes typed and documented in keeping with guidelines of good medical practice.

And finally, I will suggest you(patient) ask your clinician/doctor /nurse  to write clearly and in a legible manner. This will be  helpful when a second opinion is requested in managing your case. It gives credibility to the clinician as well as the  institution.
