Everything has to follow its time cycle!
The problem with MBA education is due to many factors.
1. There are more MBA colleges than vocational colleges (note that we have produce more skilled technicians than managers).
2. MBA education in India is not Industry oriented, many AICTE/UGC affiliated colleges teach more theoretical subjects than hands-on experience in the field.
3. Majority MBA graduates project are plagiarized-copy-paste culture. In Bangalore, many shops are selling Engineering/MBA projects!!
4. No skills- many MBA students are spoon fed by parents and professors. A person who was spoon fed can not become manager/leader.
5. Studying MBA is a trend. Many of them do not have interest/passion for management education (Vijendra Kumar S.K. & Ancy Mathew. Interest in Management Education: The Current Trend and its Implications.The International journal of Research in Commerce, IT and Management, Vol.2 (9), P.116-118).
A Case: Some years back, I met an MBA studying student. He was staying in hostel and could not adjust with room mates. he wanted my recommendation for getting single accommodation.  T refused to recommend and told him that if I have the authority, I wanted MBA students should stay in a dormitory, where they have to adjust with dozens of people and learn to 'manage' themselves!!( I bet that no student/ parents/management will agree for his son to be in a dormitory, they want luxury accommodation!).

Almost 80% of the students who are passing out of MBA/ PGDM universities, institutions & affiliated colleges look at MBA as BA or B Com or B Sc.

Devoid of Management knowledge & the implications of an MBA program, these students are lost. From Frederick Taylor to the industrial revolution to information age to the ongoing VUCA world, Management profession has witnessed a plethora of changes & got transformed now. 

In an organisation, a position may fall vacant for various reasons - an employee resigning or getting transferred or promoted or being sacked or for any other reason. It it is better not to fill up that position with a wrong hire. Or else, it affects the entire organisation.  

When a person is recruited for a position he or she is unsuitable, frustration sets in & it will rub off on colleagues, team members & demotivates the staff in the process.  This is what"s happening to the faculty, HOD, principals, Directors of Management colleges, which are declining in standards.So the top management will have a bigger problem to contend with the below par students.

Similarly, filling up the seats by indifferent students, reluctant students, those who could not get a seat elsewhere, govt sponsored students, reservation candidates, management quota students who want to enjoy & have a gala time - has diluted the PGDM/ MBA course.  

Why do we need students who do not value Management as a profession & only look at it as a certificate to land a 10 K job. Like GTU, there are hundreds of universities & institutions in similar state. 

All said & done, it is India which faced , suffered & absorbed many predators & onslaughts & still emerges as a Superpower of 2030.Nothing will happen overnight. Again, I caution the Faculty to watch out.

My views are furnished below:

i. There is mismatch between demand and supply. The "Says Law " did not work here because the education Mafia or politicians build the institutes to make use of their unaccounted money. They consider this is the best tool for earning money.

2. The syllabus of MBA is hardly matching  with the industry requirements

3. The infrastructure is not at per with AICTE or UGC norms. Most of the cases inspecting officers are given wrong feed backs with the connivance of the Management

4. The teachers are recruited on contact basis

5. Hardly teachers, my personal view, up date themselves and run the PPT or teachers guide given by the publishers

6. The students also go by inter nets only.

7. Industry people are hardly recruited.

8. The Directors, in most of the cases, are  below the average and Management nominee. Thus,  their roles are  prejudiced.

9. Their other things which are known to all ie divide and rule policy which we inherited from British Legacy.

10. Highly qualified and industry based people will never be accepted by the Director and Management. The recruitment Board has to agree with the Management because almost all the colleges are unaided.

If my observations hurt any body's sentiments, I beg apology.

Dear all,
MBA as a subject of study is not loosing it's sheen, rather it has become a necessary degree to reach pinnacles of successes in most areas of organised activities. Good management graduates from good institutions are getting higher and higher average compensation every year. Most Engineers , many CAs , ICWAs, are rushing to acquire management degree to enhance their chances of reaching higher echelons of hierarchies.
However, the problem of MBA is it's more than required proliferation of below the  average so called management institutions, who impart substandard input through inefficient process to youngsters without any aptitude for management and leadership skills.
Many of them are virtually teaching shops to make money, in the garb of imparting education.
These so called MBAs carry paper certificates with hardly  any insights , skills and competencies to manage systems, processes or people.
That is giving the illusion of MBA  degree becoming outdated.
It is not, it will not.

The present sorry state of affairs of MBA can be attributed to  lack of blend of academicians and  practitioners to teach the students. The students do not  get any exposure to  practicial insights, noon-use of case studies  as a  pedagogical tool, mushroom growth of institutions preying upon the innocent  students and paretnts.  The education is  viewed as  profitable venture,without focusing on quality of teaching and curriculum. 
the fast buck culture should give place to  enrichment of the programme  in tune with the market needs, and enlightened MBAs.  Teaching management skills should be the top priority of any professional programme.

I am reading and thinking on this issue since last 4-5 years and as a faculty of Business Management, i have one question to the system, Is is that there is no requirement of efficient managers in Corporate sector? there is, in fact there is dearth of efficient business professional, the reason behind declining trends in MBA is that it has not changed as per the requirements of corporate and still the delevery mode of  MBA degree is same as what it used to be in 80's. how these student will be able to match up with the dynamic challenges of todays corporate life when the input they got was just outdated. 
 
So if MBA is required to be revamped, it is the urgent need at the part of educationists to transform it with current business mechanism. then again MBA degree will regain its importance.

Master of Business Administration, which used to be a status symbol only two decades ago, has reduced itself to a 
poor man's degree if the salaries offered to fresh MBA grads at GTU are anything to go by. While around 62% MBA seats are vacant this year, employers are hiring MBA grads for as less as Rs 10,000 to Rs 15,000 and the varsities are not even letting out a whimper. Gujarat Technological University conducted a three-day placement for a finance company which made it clear beforehand that it would offer not more than Rs 1.44 lakh to Rs 1.80 lakh per annum to students from Ahmedabad, Rajkot, Vadodara and Surat. Rural students would be hired for Rs 1.20 lakh to Rs 1.44 lakh per annum by the company, according to the information put up on GTU website by the varsity's Integrated Training and Placement Cell (ITAP).

Around 300 students had participated in the recruitment interviews conducted by this company, according to GTU officials. These are the students who have paid between Rs 55,000 to Rs 1lakh to pursue the course. A student who participated in the placements that concluded on Tuesday said on condition of anonymity, "We passed out in April and have not been able to find a job yet. There are no takers for MBA, it seems. Had I known the job scene would be so disappointing, I would have pursued BCom. I frankly do not mind a salary of Rs 10,000 per month.

Something is better than nothing." ITAP Head Apurv Raval said, "In the threeday placement, 300 MBA graduates from across the state had participated. Around 30 were shortlisted. We make best efforts to ensure that the graduates get maximum salaries. However, in several cases the initial salary is less. Recently, Axis Security was on campus for placements and offered an annual package of Rs 1.50 lakh while engineers were offered Rs 3.6 lakh per annum by Wipro." However, Gujarat University Vice Chancellor M N Patel, is of the opinion that the varsity should put its foot down and fight for its students.

"There are 100 applicants for one job these days. Two to three years ago, the recruiting companies offered attractive packages, but now that is not the case. That said, GTU should learn to negotiate with the companies and get the best packages for its students rather than letting them down." He added, "Once you allow a company to pick your student for as less as Rs 1.80 lakh, then the next company would offer even less." Janak Khandwala, president, Association of SFI Professional Institutes said, "As far as MBA is concerned, GTU has not even designed the course properly.
It should ideally be case-study based and there should be more field work. Students who pursue the course should be able to meet the requirements of the industry. Besides, nowadays there is a huge demand-supply gap and that has led to the drop in salary packages." Not just MBA, even MCA (Master of Computer Application) has around 80 per cent seats vacant. In precise numbers, it means out of total 21,260 MBA, MCA and MCA (lateral) seats, only 4,389 have been filled while 16,871 are still vacant.

Admission Committee for Professional Courses (ACPC) has added that the number of vacant seats could be even higher as many candidates who have secured admission to MBA may opt for other courses. An ACPC official said, "There were totally 21,260 seats in MBA, MCA and MCA Lateral. Out of them, 16,871 are still vacant. In MBA course, 2,408 seats have been filled while 6,211are vacant; in MCA, only 538 seats have been filled while 4,521are vacant; and in MCA (lateral), 6,139 seats are vacant and only 1,443 seats are filled in." ACPC Member Secretary G P Vadodaria said, "The first round of seat allotment was done on Tuesday. Around 80 per cent seats are vacant in MBA, MCA and MCA (Lateral) courses. More seats could fall vacant in the coming days."
