La campagne contre le franc CFA prend de l'ampleur avec l'implication de personnalités comme Alpha Blondy. Jusqu'à quand attendront les partis politiques africains pour prendre leurs responsabilités ?

Betreff: [cameroon_politics] WHY THIS "FRANCOPHONE" ARRANGEMENT IS NOT WORKING FOR US AND NEITHER IS IT WORKING FOR THE FRANCOPHONES THEMSELVES

The Franc CFA has been a total disaster for Cameroon. We might fight, quarrel, equivocate all we want but bottom line is that if we cannot stricate ourselves out of the stranglehold of treaties signed before Independence, we are doomed to continuouslly "March on the same Spot". Monetary policies are intricately linked with Politics.

At its inception, the French created a "third world version" of the "Franc Francais". It was called CFA Franc. CFA stood for "Colonies Francaise d'Afriques". As some Nationalists in various African countries started raising eyebrows, the French silently but surrepticiously changed (17 years later) to "Communautes Financieres Africaine". There are presently 14 countries (with a total population of approximately 148 million citizens) members of the French CFA zone. I remember in 2013, three Journalists in Cote d'Ivoire who reported that France was about to devalue the CFA Franc were arrested, detained and tortured with orders from President Alasane Ouattara for "peddling False Rumors" that could endanger relations with our "BEST" friend and partner in development...France and torpedo financial stability in the subregion.

Membership requirement to belong to this prestigious "Club des amis de la France" included:
A) Deposit most (if not all) of their Foreign Currency Reserves with the French Treasury. The French Treasury will then dictate Monetary Policies and Mandate When and How participating governments could access their own Monies while at the same time, determining the Exchange Rate.
So far, the parity has remained the same with two main Central Banks that oversees the smooth flow of currency in the region. The two CFA Francs look different but they are the same. There are no dejure (despite plenty of restrictions) controls on the movement of capital within the CFA zone.
B) The most controversial about the CFA Franc remains the very strange "Agreement" signed by African Leaders that each participating country practically surrenders its sovereignity by depositing a hefty chunk of their foreign reserves into a French Managed Account with no possibility of opting out.

Think about that for a moment. Each time you put that CFA Franc in your pocket, you are actually aiding and abetting the foolishness perpetrated by our elders. Each time you handle a few CFA Francs in your hands, you have practically endorsed your very own enslavement to France. For all those who even embezzle and steal Government (the people's) monies, they are actually helping France to deplete our resources.

Southern Cameroonians and other East Cameroonians who sincerely want "Change" should start by "Boycotting" French Banks: SGBC, Credit Mutuel, BICEC, BNP Paribas, Credit Agricole, Banque Populaire & Caisse d'Epargnes, HSBC, Natixia, Banque de France etc and their imposed CFA Franc to West Africans.

NB: Not being an economist, I had to "copy" some words in this article from another writer who has a better mastery than myself.
