Job Title: UX Designer

Location: Columbia, MD

Duration: 6 Months

 

Job Description

Requirements:
The UX designer will be working with a team of other designers, product owners, software engineers, marketing professionals, and other business stakeholders and must have

• 5+ years' experience serving as a UX designer (or equivalent design position);
• Bachelors' Degree in human factors, web design, information architecture, human-computer interaction, graphic design, or related is preferred but we will consider candidates with equivalent work experience and strong portfolio of work;
• experience in prototyping, mockup and information/page flow tools such as Sketch, Axure, Adobe Edge, Balsamiq, or similar tools;
• Experience programming in HTML 5 and CSS (SCSS, LESS, etc.);
• an understanding of web technology and current trends;
• ability to communicate with product owners, developers, testers, clients and end-users in a manner that helps continuously enhance the overall usability of the application;
• ability to reconcile key stakeholder interests, conflicting priorities, and business strategy;
• graphic design skills/knowledge; and
• experience with usability analysis & discovery such as: metric analysis, end-user interviews, usability tests, and competitive analysis;

 

Other required professional and soft skills include

• Good time management skills;
• An extremely detail-oriented work ethic;
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills; and
• The ability to demonstrate work experience by providing work samples.

 

An ideal candidate will also have

• Experience working with JavaScript and/or related frameworks such as Angular, React, JQuery, etc.
• Understanding of accessibility standards such as WCAG 2.0;
• Experience working with Agile software development;
• Experience working in a Lean UX design environment;
• Experience in the education field.

Job Responsibilities
UX designer's responsibilities will include

• Working closely with business analysts, product owners, software engineers, and other designers to define and design the user experience for web applications based on technical constraints and business objectives;
• responsible for identifying navigation paradigms, page flows and data layouts, ensuring that all the designs have a consistent look & feel, and follow best practices;
• creating and following design guidelines, defining the user interface for new and existing products, developing workflows, mockups, and/or prototypes to effectively communicate design ideas;
• gauging the usability of new and existing products;
• represent the needs of the user throughout design and development; balances business needs, user experience, and technical feasibility;
• responsible for carrying projects from mockup to launch;
• follows product design standards which includes utilizing existing design patterns;
• contributes to the evolution of product design patterns;
• contributes design expertise to brainstorming sessions among fellow designers, engineers, product owners and other team members;
• advise the business about user interface design and usability best practices, trends, and other UX design standards while making recommendations that best support the achievement of business objectives;
• Accomplishes department and organization missions by completing related tasks as needed and assigned; and other duties as assigned.
