Re: BISHOPS CALL ON GOVERNMENT TO REOPEN DIALOGUE.

Church leaders are not politicians and should never assume such positions because, as it has proven itself over and over, they often do not address reality. The British Southern Cameroons does not constitute regions of the Republic of Cameroon and nobody should imply this. The lies tellers east of the Mungo have given that impression over the decades and nobody should, under any pretext of talking on our behalf seek to confirm it. If anybody wants to talk on our behalf, he/she should be telling the occupier of our land to take away their administration and military and let us alone. We are not engaging in any more talks with the Republic of Cameroon until they bring back our kidnapped citizens. Moreover, any talks must be under the mediation of either the AU or the UN. Henceforth, anyone who goes talking on our behalf must be delegated by our leadership.

The Bishops of the Bamenda Provincial Episcopal Conference (BAPEC) met with the Prime Minister and the Minister of Higher Education today, 31 January 2017. They expressed their concerns about the current crisis situation in the North West and South West Regions of Cameroon. They made proposals to Government to reopen the dialogue in the interest of getting a lasting solution to the Anglophone Problem.

The Bishops were particularly concerned about the stalemate in the schools and in other areas of life and business in the said Regions. However, they pointed out to the Prime Minister and the Minister of Higher Education that the resumption of schools and the calling off of the strike depend on the effective provision of a lasting solution to the crisis by Government, the decision of the Teachers' Trade Union Leaders and the spontaneous collaboration of parents.

For and on behalf of the Bishops of BAPEC:
Zephyrinus YEM MBUH, SD,
Secretary General of BAPEC.
