Job Description:
The SQL Programmer works with assigned customers/areas to translate business requirements and write code into application/systems. The Consultant will be assisting in developing & maintaining a custom data warehouse with the hospital system's clinical and financial systems being the data sources for the data warehouse. The organization uses Informatica Power Center 9.1 as an ETL tool. They do see some limitations with Informatica so SSIS will be used to make up for the gaps. ETL experience is desired, but not required as the management wants the consultant to learn ETL in their environment.
Responsibilities:
• Works directly with users in defining new application requirements and resolving project issues.
• Responds to user problems, explains new technologies, and presents deliverables. Learns to build productive networks with internal and external customers and vendor community.
• Participates in project design, contributing technical insights and ideas.
• Helps formulate project scope and objectives.
• Demonstrates a solid understanding of the fundamentals of requirement specification, design, coding, and testing of information systems.
• Analyzes a chain of events and applies technical knowledge following established procedures and/or detailed specifications.
• Troubleshoots most applications problems independently.
• Tests, implements, documents and maintains system components based on specifications.
• Modifies tests and troubleshoots existing tools and utilities.
• Writes basic documentation of a new or proposed system.
• Contributes to project plans, RFP's and RFI's. Shares knowledge effectively within the work team.
• Translate business requirements into specific ETL process designs.
• Lead and guide development of an ETL architecture and framework.
• Identify, recommend and implement ETL process and architecture improvements.
• Provide expert advice, counsel and technical expertise to the project team to help assure that ETL solutions are designed and developed in the optimal manner and in accordance with industry best practices.
• Work with functional and technical associates to understand the requirements and develop solution recommendations and alternatives.
• Analyze functional requirements, mapping documents, assist in problem solving and trouble shooting.
• Create and maintain Technical Design document (Logic Flow Diagrams), Mappings and Production Support & Administration document.
• Deploy ETL solutions to production and provide support for operations and problem resolution.
• Performs code and design review; coordinates and develops process automation/job scheduling.
Qualifications:
• BS/MS Degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, or related area of study
• Minimum 4 + years of IT industry experience working with large scale database applications
• 4+ years of experience using and developing complex SQL scripts to manipulate large data structures
• 4+ years of experience in SQL Database environments
• Experience in Data Modeling skills especially have solid experience working with dimensional modeling in support of large environments
• Experience building reusable ETL components
• Design and architecture background is a plus to assist in providing data integration solutions using best practices
• Good verbal and written communication skills
• Data Warehouse design and development methodologies knowledge and experience are good to have
• Experience in trouble shooting technical issues, and mentoring team members is a strong component to the team environment
• Strong preference for healthcare experience, general healthcare experience or experience with clinical data sets
Additional Information:
Most important intangible for this position is the ability and willingness to learn. The desire of the management is for the programmers to learn ETL in this environment.
A national healthcare organization with many local ministries (or hospital systems) throughout the country. They created a national IT department and instead of separate local IT departments supporting each local ministry, the national department will support many of the IT initatives within each ministry. Because the ministries have separate systems right now, consolidation of IT will ultimately reduce costs and increase efficiency. They plan to grow the national IT department by 500%. They are focusing on growing the IT department within 5 ministries and initially focusing on Austin and Nashville. Nationwide centralization means they have to rapidly deploy a data warehouse and therefore have a need for strong ETL developers.
