Someone who can code both in java and Hadoop.
This is a senior role with vertex in Berwyn, PA.
Phone and F2F
Folks who work on a 3-tier Application system in either UI/Front end, Back End Java or Hadoop. So for example, if someone is cleaning up data from Walmart or archiving data, that candidate is not likely going to be a fit for the team.
If someone does any of those three let's say on a client based application system, then, chances are the skills would be more relevant.
Folks in a different state may not be able to make Norm's test (meaning, Vertex shouldn't be spending more money on flying folks in for a contract role).
Folks who have a hard time being understood may not be effective on cross functional teams
Position Overview
This is a senior level position for a Hadoop Engineer. This individual must be capable of performing analysis, design, implementation, testing, maintenance and support tasks with minimal supervision. This position requires interaction with other group members and departments, and as such, requires excellent communication skills. This position requires the ability to work independently, as well as in collaboration with others to implement solutions.
The following is a list of the duties and responsibilities of the role:

| Assist other development staff | 5% |
| Investigate software development tools | 5% |
| Perform special assignments | 5% |
| Participate in architecture and code reviews | 5% |

Essential Experience, Knowledge & Skills
· Minimum of five years of experience in software engineering.
· Minimum one year of experience developing with Big Data technologies.
· Very strong experience with an object-oriented programming language, preferably Java
· Strong object-oriented analysis and design skills
· Experience with Apache Hive, HiveServer2, MapReduce, Apache Knox, Apache Ranger, Ambari, Hue, Presto
· Experience with developing RESTful services
· Experience with SQL, JDBC, ODBC
· Experience with Mongo DB, MySQL, Open LDAP
· Experience with JIRA and Confluence
· Experience working in SCRUM methodology
· Knowledge of cloud computing infrastructure - Amazon AWS (EC2, EBS, S3)
· Strong communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills
· Education & Training
· B.S. in Computer Science or Software Engineering or equivalent experience.
