Re: [MTC Global] Are we passionate about our work?

Dear All,
Dr Priyanka P V has indeed demonstrated perseverance and passion together, as suggested by Prof. Jagan Mohan.
  • Kindly refer the report Figure 1. Talent archetypes: (Click on pie pieces to view description of archetypes) https://dupress.deloitte.com/dup-us-en/topics/talent/worker-passion-employee-behavior.htm
  •  Performer 5.3%, Mad Scientist 5.5%, Player  6.6%, Learner 9.3%, Loyalist 10.3%, Connector 11.1%,
  • Explorer: 12.3%
  • The ExplorerQuesting, connecting, committed The Explorer displays Commitment to Domain and the Questing and Connecting dispositions.Explorers want to have a lasting and increasing impact on a particular industry or function. They go above and beyond their job description and even beyond organizational boundaries in pursuit of opportunities to learn and improve performance. They also seek out others to share interests and find new solutions. Given their attributes, Explorers are able to learn quickly and retool to address challenges and opportunities as they emerge and have the highest potential to achieve sustained performance improvement. This passion benefits both the individual and the organization.
I take this opportunity to wish her as well as the passionate teaching community, all the very best of health, happiness, prosperity and a sense of accomplishment in their pursuit of passion.
Warm regards,
G.S.Autee

We have the workers of different types:

  1. Workaholic, do not care about returns but works non-stop.
  2. Passionate
  3. Dutiful
  4. Consider work as worship
  5. just perform to keep nose above water.
  6. What is my bonus/reward? If it exists, I will work.
  7. Do not care performance, do whatever you want.
How to differentiate the first four? How will you rank them in the order of merit?

Passion combined with perseverance (called grit)will do the wonders and what organisations need to do is create such an enabling environment

Dear All,
As per Deloitte report, the secret to long-term, consistent success for business is to have passionate workers who are consistently working toward big goals and thinking big.
  • "Passionate workers are committed to continually achieving higher levels of performance.
  • In today's rapidly changing business environment, companies need passionate workers because such workers can drive extreme and sustained performance improvement—more than the one-time performance 'bump' that follows a bonus or the implementation of a worker engagement initiative.
  • These workers have both personal resilience and an orientation toward learning and improvement that helps organizations develop the resilience needed to withstand and grow stronger from continuous market challenges and disruptions."

passion at work is more consistent than engagement graphic comparison

The Deloitte report offers some tips on what to do and describes three attributes to help employees develop:

  1. Connecting

Workers who are passionate about what they do are always looking to connect with others to help them improve and solve problems. Deloitte recommends that you help employees connect with other people at their company and network with people outside the workplace.

  2. Questing

Workers with the questing attribute will always be looking for innovative ways to improve what they do. They're constantly testing and experimenting with new ideas. Deloitte encourages you to allow employees to work on side projects, or even better, let them choose which projects they work on at work.

  3. Commitment to domain

Passionate workers have a commitment to the domain they're in and are deeply committed to the work they do. A simple example of this is when a falsely accused criminal becomes a lawyer who fights wrongful convictions. That experience leads them to be more passionate about their work than someone who hasn't had that experience.
