Re: [MTC Global] SKILL INDIA ~ Facts and Figures

  1. India has 50,000 colleges
  2. India has 15,000 ITI's & ITC'c skill centres and probably another 15,000 not registered skill centres
  3. China has 500,000 Skill centres, 350,000 in Rural China & 150,000 in Urban China. I have collected the list of these 1600 courses taught here. If interested write to me for details. List 1 for Rural China & 3 lists for Urban China
  4. Germany has 100,000 skill centres with about 400 basic courses and about 15,000 specialised courses
  5. Japan has about 150,000 skill centres
  6. Switzerland has 6,000 skill centres. I am reproducing a book written by a Swiss Parliamentarian-Why are the Swiss so Rich? The main reason is Skill building. You can download this book from my website free of cost. The link is http://www.wakeupcall.org/our_goal/Why%20are%20we%20so%20rich-Rudolf%20Strahm.pdf
  7. After 68 years of Independence the new government started the Ministry of Skills.
  8. We have suggested to the MHRD & Ministry of Skills that there should be one skill centre in each Panchayat,
  9. All the 250,000 higher secondary schools should have one skill centre.
  10. This way we can also have 500,000 skill centres in a short time of 2 to 5 years.

Hello all MTC friends,

Observing the data as given by Dr.S.S Dey, an inference can be drawn that our education and training i.e. skill development is lop sided. Our next generation is learning blindly without caring what is required by the industry in our country.

Who will lead to guide them? I saw a picture about change. The person on the podium says: who wants change?
All sitting opposite the podium raised their hands. 100%, it is awesome said the person behind the podium.

Next he says: who will change?          All hands were down and heads were stooped of the people on the other side of the podium.

Last he said: who will lead the change?    By this time, none was on their seats to hear him.

In the same way, who will lead to fill this skill gap in the coming years so that the country may not suffer from productive skills.

More guidance, more career counselling, more interaction between Government, Government Departments and Industry required.

Valued views of worthy MTCians are welcome.

64% skill shortage in India means a very big number in crore, in absolute term. China has 24% skill shortage, though equally a large number but much much less than that of India.. A matter of intense worry indeed.
