Sir, the time has come to have a fresh look at Management education. If one were to look
at the application of the management knowledge, we can easily see it operating at various
levels.
The first level is at the individual level: At this level one can perceive managing time,
information, uncertainty and ambiguity and ones work- life balance so as to make it
efficient and effective to perform at the assigned tasks
The second level is the management function at the group level. Here one is involved in
applying the knowledge of management to perform as a team. It is the functional level,
the day to day nitty-gritty of organizational activity. It involves understanding
processes, responsibility and accountability, reporting and participation in the group
effort.
The third level: This involves the tactical decision making that managers make and
implement to achieve the goals effectively. Here scientific theories, models and IT may
be applied vigorously to challenges that confront the manager beside relying on man
management skills to oversee the implementation and control
The fourth level is at the level of strategy where a different set of knowledge and
skills are needed.
There may be even more levels in a complex and very large organizations.
Each of these levels need different approaches to the way education is imparted to the
target group of students.
Organizations have realized the complex nature of management techniques and have moved on
to implement management programs that best suit their specific situations. But have our
Colleges realized the differences sufficiently that each level may call for a very
different approach to imparting education that the student could benefit in a wholesome
manner?

It (closing institutes) is a part of business cycle as we have been considering
education as a service industry. The institutes being closed have generated national
assets. How to bring them (assets) in the cause of national development is a matter of
urgent consideration.
Is it justifyable to impose penalty on such colleges? Do we impose penalty on lock-out or
bankrupt industry?

Subject: [MTC Global] Survival for the fittest~ 275 engineering colleges have applied for
closure, AICTE chairman says
COIMBATORE: A total of 275 engineering colleges across the country applied
for closurethis year, said chairman of All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE)
Anil D Sahasrabuddhe on Friday. The maximum number of institutions that have applied for
closure are from Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh. "The number of institutions are almost
equal from all states. Tamil Nadu and Andhra alone have more," Sahasrabuddhe said here.In
the past two years, the AICTE has been actively working on reducing the quantity of
engineering institutions across the country. The regulatory body has also reduced the
penalty for closing down an engineering institution that was a deterrent for many
colleges which were willing to shut in the midst of poor demand.Source: TOI
